<I LMAO at the "Norway is the new Scotland" - I am Norwegian and married to a Scot>

That's funny, Northern! From the chronological order of the books, I guess the two free today can be read without the others first?

Loving the Norseman (The Hansen Series)
Loving the Knight (The Hansen Series)

Well, I just jumped on the bandwagon with the rest of you and grabbed these two!

Micki, I just looked at the description pages of both and realized they ARE the first two in the series. I think I misread before. They do look good!

@Ketta- I pretty much have decided not to sell it. It did come back just fine... been reading on it all morning. FWIW, it is the wifi one without special offers, however while I was looking on amazon I found somewhere to turn special offers on and off.

Oh please tell me how to turn special offers off.

Moggy K says:
I think you have to pay the difference to get the special offers turned off if you bought the cheaper one with the special offers. At least that is how I understood it to work.

OK here goes. Keep in mind that my KK was pre-special offers. I don't know if this same thing works on the kindles that are sold as special offers... but go to my account, manage my kindle, then look where it shows your kindle... across the top of that there are different headings... one of those being special offers. Currently I am unsubscribed, but earlier I subscribed to see what it was like... it says next time kindle is connected to wifi it will be updated. I decided I didn't like that so I went and unsubscribed connected to wifi and it was gone, hope this helps!

ETA sorry didn't realize it cost extra to turn it off. I would turn it on if I could get a $40 GC! Lol

Rosie says:
Yeah, I figured it out. I'll keep the special offers. Its not worth $40 to me.

Shadow of the Sun (Timeless #1)
Gabriella's past is a mystery, but that never stopped her from achieving her goals. As a Supernatural Specialist, and far more intelligent than anyone her age, she was always ignored by her peers. Because of the isolation she always felt, she put her life and soul into her job. Being a Supernatural Specialist hasn't given her the divine intervention she always longed for, until one day a shipment arrives from Italy containing three dead bodies with an uncanny ability to regenerate. Gabriella is frightened and intrigued, but not as scared as she becomes when a dark creature attacks her.
As the bodies come back to life, the plot takes an unexpected twist that you won't see coming. The supernatural world only begins to unfold before her as angels appear, her dreams start to haunt her, and the very past she has forgotten comes back with startling clarity. Romance blooms, escape plans are made, an assassin is out to kill her, and death is only around the corner. But what is more terrifying than all of this is the fact she is the chosen one, the Illuminator, the one who will save them all.

Phantom Universe (Summer Chronicles #1)
Phantom Universe is a YA SciFi/Fantasy novel based in a dystopian society and is the first in the Summer Chronicles, an inspiring new series by best-selling fantasy author Laura Kreitzer.
Sold into slavery to pirates at the young age of four, Summer learns to survive the rough seas of subterfuge and thieves through silence. When the boat she's lived on most of her life is destroyed, Summer finds herself washed up on the shore of a new world, a phantom universe full of the bizarre and extraordinary. She meets Gage, the one boy who understands the girl with no speech. But when their lives are put on the line, will Summer finally call out? Or will all be lost in the fathomless depth of silence?

The Arrival (BirthRight Trilogy)
Cat, Kassie, Sian and Loi are anything but damsels in distress. Fed up with a lack of decent male specimens they cast a love spell in the hopes of finding their soul-mates. And inadvertently land themselves on another planet.
Oops
The Arrival, follows the girls' adventures as they stumble through a foreign and often hostile world where humans are NOT at the top of the food chain. Friendships are forged and love teeters on the horizon while the threat of civil war looms thanks to the girls' very unexpected 'gifts'. Will the girls master these gifts in time to survive a war in which, not only are they the ultimate weapons, but also the ultimate prize...

The special offers don't bother me at all. In fact I like the variety - I was getting pretty sick of the screen savers that Amazon picked out for the Kindle 2. After couple of years I just got tired of looking at the same ones over and over again.

Borax works for ants as well. We followed a trail of them infesting my Dad's house, and boraxed it all the way and got rid of them.

The Bro-Magnet (A Nice Guy Romance Novel)
Women have been known to lament, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." For Johnny Smith, the problem is, "Always a Best Man, never a groom." At age 33, housepainter Johnny has been Best Man eight times. The ultimate man's man, Johnny loves the Mets, the Jets, his weekly poker game, and the hula girl lamp that hangs over his basement pool table. Johnny has the instant affection of nearly every man he meets, but one thing he doesn't have is a woman to share his life with, and he wants that desperately. When Johnny meets District Attorney Helen Troy, he decides to renounce his bro-magnet ways in order to impress her. With the aid and advice of his friends and family, soon he's transforming his wardrobe, buying throw pillows, ditching the hula girl lamp, getting a cat and even changing his name to the more mature-sounding John. And through it all, he's pretending to have no interest in sports, which Helen claims to abhor. As things heat up with Helen, the questions arise: Will Johnny finally get the girl? And, if he's successful in that pursuit, who will he be now that he's no longer really himself? THE BRO-MAGNET is a rollicking comedic novel about what one man is willing to give up for the sake of love.

Moggy K - I still read on a K2. At first the screen savers annoyed me. But now I think I would miss all the dead authors and weird images if they were gone! Are the special offers full screen images on the new Kindles? I thought they were a little blurb on the bottom.

Afternoon, all. Sympathizing with the migraine crowd, pounding sinus triggered headache didn't respond to the sudafed, mucinex and tylenol combo, so came home at lunch and hit it with Excedrin, Amerge and another dose of Mucinex (fortunately, I only do this maybe once a season, usually this week or next week on the calendar) and have knocked out the pain - or masked it. - Yay! Back to work from home, but - wanted to say, vinegar for ants? Thanks Mikki, I keep a jug of white vinegar at all times, that plus water in a spray bottle is my favorite cat mess cleaner, and am having a terrible anthill year. Will go soak those babies tonite!

On bay leaves for little annoying pantry bugs - you just scatter bay leaves on the shelves? how much?

And thanks for the brewers yeast tip - I hate flea medication, applied the topical to all 3 cats one year, and one cat lost all the hair in a stripe down his back and never grew it back. The other two also lost, but took several months to return. Never again.

And forgot - on books, I also finished offThe Two Pound Chic Magnet (NOT FREE NOW); romance/fiction from the male point of view, featuring a Papillon, nice guy with demanding girlfriend takes in his sister's dog and life changes for he and his friends....enjoyed the read, more a relationship book than straight romance. Plus an adorable dog!

The special offers are full-screen in screen saver mode, but when you're on the main Kindle directory page (home), they are just a banner at the bottom. When actually reading, they are non-existent.

@MamaSylvia
Congrats on the new computer, hurry back and tell us how fast it is!

Thanks to everyone for their congratulations on my "perfect" launch and my lucky win of Grandma's blog contest. If I was going out today, I *would* buy a lottery ticket! :D

And whoever wanted to turn off special offers; empathize with you. I bought one of the first special offers Kindles, and I loved, loved, loved the ads, Amazon put out good ones, and the photos for screensavers were well done and discreet. Since they decided to feature AmazonLocal stuff, all I get are spa and botox ads with toothy airbrushed women in the picture, or something equally obnoxious. And I can't change my area to a broader section of Dallas Fort Worth cause it is based on zip code, so they lump me in the "I can fix it" area to the north. (I called and tried) really gone downhill.
