Kudos to Amazon for listening to customers. The way you are implementing these changes provides an optimum balance between customer satisfaction and marketing goals (by giving customers the choice to turn 'recommendations' off, but presumably having them on by default).

I emailed Amazon about first generation fire and this is the response I got about updates....

I'd like to help you in this regard.

As with all of our products, we continue to make the Kindle Fire better for customers with regular software updates. We wanted to let you know we are working on additional features and we expect to make additional features available as part of the next software update for Kindle Fire.

I've forwarded your concern to our development team and we'll consider your feedback as we plan further improvements. I've let the Kindle team know you're interested in this feature.

It is always important for us to hear how customers react to all aspects. Your valuable feedback will help us to improve the selection and service we provide and we're glad you took time to write to us.

Your Kindle Fire will automatically download the latest software version when connected to a Wi-Fi network. Updates may take as long as 10 minutes. If you receive an error message while an update is downloading, charge your Kindle Fire (using a power adapter, if possible) and leave it turned on. The software update will download in the background and will be applied once download is complete and the device is sleeping.

To check if your Kindle Fire has the latest version of software available and for instructions on how to update the software, visit:

http://www.amazon.com/kindlesoftwareupdates

Please note that software updates can't be downloaded using the Silk browser.

If you have any queries or If you feel that we can be of any further help, please don't hesitate to contact us again, we'll be happy to assist and ensure that the issue is resolve to the fullest of your satisfaction:

Thanks for using Kindle.

I am still holding out hope that there will be features added to the Fire 1 at some point. It makes little sense to not add things like x-ray, photo app, page numbers, etc if they really are selling services/content and not gadgets.

I don't think that it is going to get an Banana Cream Sundae (or whatever they are up to) Android update. But I don't care about that part. I just want the features and cloud/content access.

Linda - The only reason you would have been charged for the replacement is if you didn't return the defective device. They even provide the return shipping label.

If you really have concerns about being charged for the replacement you need to contact customer service. I'd wait and contact them Monday during Seattle business hours.

O CONTACT KINDLE CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Click on this link and fill in the information. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html/?nodeId=200127470
You may have to sign in. I would use the PHONE or CHAT options.
Do NOT use e-Mail.
CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

@MonkeyJoe: We have heard your message, but we can't do anything about it - we are NOT from Amazon.

There is a nice female voice when you use it with Kindle Fire HD. It goes from 1x - 4x. Fairly loud through built in speakers.

Raymond says:
I also would to see a font size fix in the email app. Even with the smallest font size and horizontal or vertical you have slide left and right to read the whole message. I don't see any other settings to change this.

New to Kindle Fire dowloads. Just bought book online and it says: 54% does that mean that only a portion of the book has downloaded? Help, anyone?

I know....but that has been everyone's #1 complaint about the fire forever....seems like a simple software update would fix it.....yet all we get from amazon is a stone wall

Will amazon include the device de-registration process (or all settings) under parental control? I have a first generation kindle fire, and my 2.5 year old daughter playes with it, and she de-registred the device twice in last month. It is extremely inconvenient to download all the apps, and loose all the data. An upgrade would be very helpful.

I love the device due to its size (over 7" HD) and planning to keep it as long as possible.

@Md Nazmul: If you want to be certain that someone from Amazon hears your feedback, please send an email to kindle-feedback@amazon.com or kindle-fire-feedback@amazon.com if you have a Fire - we are mainly Kindle owners here, not from Amazon.

If you have a moment, check out this app:
Kids Place - Parental Control
(its free). I have it set up on my 1st gen K-Fire and rest assured that my granddaughter will stay within bounds when I hand my device to her. She has the use of specific apps that I have selected and cannot leave Kids Place without the input of a pin number. If she clicks on what would be a live link to an outside site, she is automatically brought back around to Kids Place.

And the iPhone 3g was the iPhone's second generation.

"will hd support java games like runescape?"

No, and it's unlikely that any Android device will EVER support any Java games. The makers of Java and Android are suing each other, and neither wants to work with the other's products.

Would to know why I can't hook up my wireless bluetooth headphonesto my Fire HD when it claims it has bluetooth but can't find any device.

You need to follow the instructions for both the Fire and the headphones to pair them.
