This was our daughter's Christmas gift and we have the same issue with the frozen "kindle fire" black screen with full charge. Only worked a few hours for her. This stinks!!! Can't find answers, we have tried everything. We should have purchased an iPad like I have, never had an issue with it!!!!!

Just return it - I did and the new one is great - the ones packaged a while back needed the software update - I think the ones being shipped now have it.

I think we must need to go that route too....nothing is working! Glad I am a patient person or I might have pulled my hair out :~)

I wasn't sure what to do either....thanks to some of you, all I did was hold the button down for about 15 sec. and it re-booted. Those of you that rush to "dump" the thing and go to something else...this was a quick solution. This is a wonderful little machine! I hope you give it more of a chance.

I've tried everything....I believe my daughter's is simply defective. I want her to have one, but one that works! :))

H. Thomas says:
Return it for another one. It is worth the wait to get one that is updated without the obvious bug that plagued the first ones.

Mine froze and I took your advice and held down the button for 15 seconds and it worked!! Thank you!!! BTW I turned it back on and then it shut itself right back down. I turned it on again and now it is installing updates. Do you think that's why it froze, because it was adding updates?

we returned our kindle fire today....absolutely no questions were asked, not even if we wanted to exchange! (which I thought was odd, but happy b/c we wanted a refund anyway!) and we decided on the Barnes & Noble Nook tablet. Fingers crossed ;)

Okay, Have had my Kindle Fire for about 2 months. It completely froze when I was on pinterest.com. I did like one of these posts said and held the power button for 15 seconds and it turned it off. I then plugged it in, even though I had an almost full charge. After about 20ish seconds it came to the unlock screen and now works fine. Be patient!

Same thing with me. It took maybe a minute and half to two minutes with the Kindle Fire logo blinking twice but once it was on it was fine. I've had it "freeze" twice on me but I just leave it alone and after awhile it basically reboots itself and is fine again. I mess with it on and off all day long so I'm too fussy about it. Besides, for the price difference between the Fire adn the iPad, I'll take it. :)
