Unless the product detail indicates that a new battery has been installed, they're the unit's original batteries.

Refurbished Kindles are not repaired Kindles. It isn't cost effective to Amazon to repair them. In fact it's not even cost effective for Amazon to make them in the first place but the ebooks generate enough profit to more than make up for it.

Refurbished Kindles are just Kindles that are returned by the customer, usually not even used. They can't be sold as new because they have been shipped or purchased in a store but they haven't had enough use to warrant a new battery or likely even to be charged.

Although they still have the same 12-month warranty that new kindles and their batteries have.
