I bought a non amazon case, and although the back camera, and flash on the kindle hdx is fully exposed. I still get the pop up notification to slide the kindle up on the front screen. Is there any way to disable this animated Pop-up. Thanks.

I did a mayday call and complained about this. It is a problem because unless you have an origami case, you will always get this notification. Camera works fine outside of the cases but who wants to keep taking their kindle out of the case each time you want to take a pictire.

I have one of the CaseCrown cases. I loosened up the Velcro that tucks underneath the kindle to keep it snug in the case, so the kindle slides a little(about a quarter of an inch)so I can center the kindle back camera to the case camera opening. It will now open the camera app without the pop-up, but I now have a kindle that will move around in the case. I guess if I'm looking for a quick, in the moment, snapshot I wont be using my kindle.
In conclusion. Amazon doesn't need to disable the pop up completely, just have it disappear after a couple of seconds. This would be good enough for me.

I guess its just a first world problem, but it would be nice if I didn't have, the problem, at all.

I just received a response to an inquiry made a week ago. I was informed the issue will be corrected in the next software update which is coming in a few weeks. To workaround this I installed a Camera app from the appstore. This is the one I'm using. It's only $.99 and works really well.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try. Hopefully amazon will have an update sooner than later. Thanks again.

You're very welcome and I'll post more info as it becomes available.

Have you received any further update regarding software update?
My version on a new HDX8.9 is with a build date of 11/14/2013 at 22:16 EST.
The camera issue discussed is still present.
In another forum the maker of my case cover (finite) suggests getting another camera app since it is a knownsoftware issue.

No new news regarding this. Ill inquire again but it will be part of the upcoming software update. You're running the most current version available. I use this app and it works really well. I mentioned it in my above post.

The new update is out, and the problem is still not fixed. It is VERY aggravating, and using a different app does not help. We should be able to disable this if we choose.

The app I mentioned in the post before yours eliminates the message. You need to use the app to access the camera, not the native method.

I tried it - it does the same thing. I will just get a new cover. Thanks.

You're accessing the camera through the app itself, correct? What cover are you using? I've tried it on several different manufacturers of auto sleep/wake covers with no message appearing.

My wife uses Fintie Amazon All-New Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Slim Fit Folio Case Cover with Auto Wake / Sleep Feature - Purple (will only fit Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" 2013 Model) and the software problem is definitely present there. The rear camera and flash are completely open, but the silly pop up animation still appears. This is inexcusable. If using a different software is the fix, it at the very least must be provided by Amazon for free.

I spent hours researching cases over the past two days after deciding to upgrade to the HDX 8.9 from the original first generation Fire. I can't begin to guess how many reviews I read through. Most of the newest reviews indicated that the problem with the camera had been resolved (for multiple cases). Just to be safe, I ordered three: The Fintie Slim Fit Folio with auto wake/sleep, the rooCASE slim shell origami and a super cheapo Maxboost book folio stand case. Received my new Fire and three cases today. Checked for updates and installed version at 8:33pm. The only case that works without the notification was the most expensive rooCase at $24.98 and I hate it - the "origami" part is ridiculously flimsy and annoying. I really didn't want to go with the Amazon origami because all reviews said it was so heavy and EXPENSIVE, and now I don't want to try it because I just don't dig the whole fold up the electronics case deal. Still looking for a solution and will be heading to the post office soon to return three useless cases. If I didn't want the camera feature, I would have just gotten the HD and saved a few bucks.

Buy this app for $.99 and use it in lieu of the native camera app. Works great with any cover.
