I plan to sell my Kindle Fire to a friend when the new Kindle HD 8.9 inch HD version is available in late November. I know I need to remove it from my Amazon account and I want to remove all personal content from it as well. I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, etc. in this regard. Thank you.

Factory reset, then deregister is what I've done in the past. I think. It's been a while since I gave one away.

Actually...don't you need to do that reversed? Deregister, then reset...otherwise, when you reset, it will repopulate your carosel with everything you own...but if you deregister, then reset...there is no account to pull from in the reset...
What I don't know...when you do a factory reset - does that also remove all your pictures, your documents, so on?

Lucy...I would also contact KINDLE CS....use the contact tab, and have them call you. If you do this during the day, it might take all of 5 minutes before they call you back...but...that might be the best and most assured way to do what you need done.

No need to connect CS.
A simple reset to factory deregisters and clears the Fire.
Nothing is on the Fire until it is again registered.

The OP asked the question a couple of times and got complete instructions

Nospin...does a factory reset clear out pictures, documents, etc - things outside of Amazon content? The reason I ask - a couple of months after I got my fire, there was a problem showing books in my library...CS walked me through a reset...and it seems that documents I had loaded, as well as a couple pictures, were still on my of them being my .csv contacts list...

L. Hill - Resetting to factory defaults removes all content from your Fire and any personal settings like wi-fi set-ups. It also deregisters it from your account. The only things it doesn't remove are software updates.

Thanks for all the good information. I'm sure this will help others as well who are planning to upgrade.
