Does anyone know if the "find my Kindle" app has been fixed? From
reading the reviews,it appears a lot of people had their wifi
connections disrupted after downloading it.

I've had it for several months and it hasn't disrupted my wifi at all.

The app hasn't been out that long, not to mention the Fire.

It's actually called "Locate my Kindle." Look at the reviews and sort by most recent first. It looks like people are still having issues with it. Also, as you know, the Kindle Fire doesn't have GPS so this app uses WiFi triangulation to determine the location. This would be useless in an area without WiFi or if the WiFi is turned off.

M. Mayo,

I am with Locate My Kindle team.
One of our earlier versions did have a wifi issue, however this was fixed 3 weeks after its first release in February 2012. Anyone who has updated to our latest release will not have the wifi issues that some of our initial first release users unfortunately had.

Should anyone have issues them they will have to update to our current version which is of course free of charge to existing customers.

I put this app on my daughter's kindle in March 2012. Her kindle was stolen two weeks ago- when I realized it was likley stolen and not lost in her room, I went to locate her kindle- The app found no current info on the kindle. Per Amazon the kindle has now been registered to someone else. So much for tamper proof reliability. If soeone can just wipe it out when they steal the device, what IS the point?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 7, 2012 5:25:49 AM PDT
I would assume so; I had to do two re-sets. I had to re-download ALL of my apps each time.

For when it's lost in your kid's room.

I just lost my kindle after having recently bought the "Locate My Kindle" app. What do I do now to try to find it?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 6, 2012 11:52:01 AM PDT
When i reported mine lost, I was told once it is reported stolen or lost, unless you authorize it to be registered, no one is suppose to be able to register it. They first had to remove it from your account and then add to a new account. Did you talk to amazon directly?

You can't. You have to install the app on the Fire before you lose it.

@Sherrie: You'll need to ask Apple about that. Also remove your email address from both your posts - this is a public forum, and adding your email address is an invitation to spammers.

Yes! See Apple and edit your posts to remove your email address.

I just paid $1.99 for the FindMyKindle which says my kindle is 15 miles away in Santa Cruz when it is right in front of me. So what can I do? Can I get my money back since it cannot accurately find my kindle? 15 miles off is not acceptable!!
Unhappy in Aptos, CA !!

What did you expect Amazon to do about it? Amazon did not put out the app. Amazon does not guarantee it will work. Amazon does not replace lost/stolen Kindles under warranty.

If anyone is to blame it would be you for not keeping your devices with you or in a secured location.

It is easy to reset Kindles to factory condition which will erase all the apps/data on the Kindle.

Unless you have either a 3G or 4G capable device, of which most Kindle devices are not, then it seems that this app is only truly beneficial to those who habitually lose their Kindles in their own homes. It would take an extremely precise (and lucky) sequence of events in order to locate a stolen Kindle using an app like this. You would literally have to use the locating app immediately after your device is stolen; the thief would have to be within a wifi-hot spot, or other wifi zone immediately after the theft; and, they would have to be (and stay) in that location so that they could be easily tracked back too it for confiscation purposes. Otherwise, once the stolen device is wiped, assuming the thief is smart enough to do this right away, then what's the point? The most anyone could hope for is that Amazon will brick the device once its theft is reported.

Seems to me like all this app is really good for is to positively confirm whether or not a Kindle has actually been stolen (provided it could even do that effectively enough based on wifi availability), or if it's simply lost nearby.

Jazzy_Jeff says:
Most of the Kindle Fires do not have GPS built in so the only way to track it with that app is through WiFi which is not very accurate. So it would have to be connected to the internet to work in the first place. If the person who stole your Fire has any brains they would have either done a factory reset or at the very least gone through your apps and deleted them.

Also if you deregistered your Fire after it was stolen (which most people would do) then that would also wipe the Fire once connected to the internet.

You can't blame Amazon on this. They didn't make the app.
