Windows tells me I need drivers for my kindle. Any help??

Cancel the error message and just continue. You don't need to load any drivers.

Using Vista... My Kindle Fire tells me I can now transfer files from my computer to Kindle. Howeveer, Windows Explorer doesn't see the Kindle, so I'm in a NoGo here. Any ideas on how to get it to recognize the Kindle? I've unplugged and replugged the USB, no help.

i have the same issue for windows vista and my Kindle Fire. No driver and my Windows doesn't recognize the Kindle Fire. What is odd, is i have accessed my Kindle twice before, adding and transferring files easily via Windows Vista. But now, it doesn't work.

Vista's USB drivers are pretty flaky. Make sure your Kindle is turned on and not in Sleep mode (i.e. you should be able to see the home screen) before plugging it into the USB port. Cancel any messages from Vista about installing drivers. If it wants to scan and repair your Kindle, either don't let it or at least uncheck the "automatically fix errors" setting.

You can also try other USB ports - sometimes one works better than others. I've also found that shorter USB cables from my cell phone work much more reliably than the long ones that come with the Kindles.

And, of course, you should try rebooting your PC and the Kindle if nothing else works.

I just bought a Kindle Fire and connected it to my computer. My Windows Vista says it needs a driver. I tried to cancel it and the computer does not see it? What do I need to do to fix this situation??? I am disappointed that there are no instructions or disk with this product!

I just read a post on another sheet...and it worked for me. If you unlock the kindle before you connect to the can cancel the request for a driver and your computer will see the kindle and allow you to transfer.

Hi. My Kindle is unlocked and in USB transfer mode and my PC still says it cannot find a driver. Prior to the 6.2.2update, transferring worked just fine.

Just Cancel any messages it gives you about drivers. It does not need a driver.

i have tried all of the suggestions. anyone find a driver?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 10, 2012 10:16:13 AM PST
There is no driver needed, and nothing you can or should install that will help. The built-in USB disk driver is all that is required. What suggestions have you tried?

I have Vista as well...I've tried everything folks are posting and no matter what it shows that I need a driver when I look in device managers, and the Kindle does nothing with the USB plugged in. It previously worked fine...does anyone have any suggestions that actually work?

Hi Karen, Denise and others,

I suggest that you take a look at this Kindle book:

I have Vista as well, and found you do not necessarily need a driver - just ignore the pop-ups. Move data (for example, pictures) from your computer to your Kindle Fire by either copy/paste or drag and drop from your computer file to the plugged in Kindle Fire located on your (normally) F drive. I have not tried moving items from my Kindle Fire to my computer as yet.

I have Windows Vista and tried several types of transfer (data) formats and kept getting the driver required message, as well. I believe, albeit a roundabout approach, would be to upload my music files to the cloud and then to the Kindle Fire. Joan Long alludes to this two posts prior to this one. So when I began that approach, I noticed that the cloud upload would be in mp3 format. Once I saw this, I went back to my rip/burn app on my notebook called "Power2Go" and selected the "Rip Audio" function to transfer the music files directly to the Kindle using the mini USB but in mp3 format only! This time, the Artist was listed (not in any other format) (and the tracks listed minutes and secs). SO--BOTTOM LINE IS TO RIP THE FILES AND TRANSFER DIRECTLY TO THE KINDLE IN MP3 FORMAT AND LIFE WILL BE GOOD, ONCE AGAIN! HOPE THIS HELPS!

When I plug my Kidle in I get the error message "USB device not recognised". I have Vista. The Kindle device does not appear on "My Computer" so cannot connect, drag or drop or anything. None of the above solutions work for me, device switched on or not. Any more ideas?

bagsy: Are the music files in a format that the Kindle can play? Are they mp3 files?

I downloaded CDs straight onto laptop so probably not, how do I convert into mp3 files then?
