3g on kindle keyboard is missing

Have you done a hard reboot? Hold the button over for 30 seconds (count them) and then let it repopulate (don't touch anything until it shows the correct number of what's on that device). See if that helps.

i did just try that, hadn't in a long time, have just done regular shut downs on it a lot lately. hasn't helped though, will try again tomorrow in a location where I know for sure it should work. maybe it has just been where I am at the time, getting bad reception. thanks

I just searched for threads about a similar problem a week or so back, and one of the solutions that came up was a need for customer support to do a reset of the antenna from their end. If a hard reset doesn't help, give that a go. Click on the blue "help" link at the top of the page, then the big yellow "contact us" button on the RHS and follow the instructions from there. Use phone or chat, not email, for a live response.
