Can anyone tell me how to change my paperwhite back to portrait view? Thanks!

Menu>Portrait Mode

I have tried that both from the main screen and also from inside the book and I don't see that option.

Is Landscape Mode there when a book is open?

CatChat says:
you may need to scroll the menu to find it. open a book, swipe to bring up the menu, click on the last icon (three lines) and portrait/landscape will be a choice.

Oops, found it. Just had to figure out how to scroll the settings. Finally got it to work but am not sure exactly how. Thanks a bunch!

Not unless there's something different after the update. It's the third item down.

ETC

apparently in landscape mode you can't see it and need to scroll the menu to find it. I only knew that because someone else posted it.

It must be different after the update, then. Thanks.

seems like it. I have a pw2, but it seems like the pw1 update is throwing everyone for a loop.

I haven't done the update on my 1st generation. I don't intend to.

Oh, it doesn't bother me at all not to connect it to wi-fi.

plenty of work arounds for the ereaders. my fires on the other hand. I would lose my mind.

In reply to an earlier post on May 25, 2014 6:41:05 PM PDT
I bet. I don't have a Fire.

I started with a fire Christmas 2011. only got my pw 2 months ago. I love my fire and am glad I got it. at the time I was asking for an ereader for Christmas but my mom thought I'd have more fun with the fire and got me that instead. she was right. but I didn't want to go another summer trying to read that thing outside so asked for a pw for my bday this year. so I'm glad the pw2 was my first ereader. love it as much as the fires (up to 3 now)

Thank you. I think the fact that you suggested opening a book made all the difference! I can now read in portrait mode, am very grateful :)

I tried the scroll bar. It won't move. It just opens one of the options I am touching along side the scroll bar. So I can't get down to the bottom of the menu where the portrait/landscape option is. Did you ever figure it out?

Miss Carol says:
You don't scroll on the bar - you scroll in the middle of the window. Put 2 fingers there and push up.

Swipe up in the menu box. Don't even try to touch and move the scroll bar itself.

I read every question and all replys and none helped me. I thought my Paperwhite was stuck on 'landscape' until I tried one more thing. I went to my books and clicked on 'My Clippings', then I tapped on Menu and the 'portrait' option was there. I had read I needed to tap on Menu while 'reading the book'. That did not work for me. It could be I have something wrong with my Paperwhite, but as long as I have it back in 'portrait', I'm leaving it there. Hope this helps.

Thanks Brent. It seems that every body has a unique way to change from landscape to portrait on the Kindle paperwhite. Frankly, I think the problem is the Kindle paperwhite. There isn't enough room at the bottom of the landscape mode to surface the option that will change the landscape mode to portrait. Everyone plays around with the options to finally, and probably accidentally, get the portrait mode to return. Notice that everyone who has this problem is afraid to return to the landscape mode for fear of not being able to get it back to portrait again. Tell me that this isn't a poor design.

all you need to do while a book is open, is to tap in the top half inch of the screen, tap on the 3bars (menu), then place your finger on the bottom of the menu that comes up and gently slide up and the option is there. The option is not available on the Home page menus, just when you have a book open unless the book is hard-coded to be in landscape mode (I've only seen one book like that) and a change will affect any subsequent book that is opened

I also had to figure out how to bring up the menu bar inside 'landscape'. I brought it up by tapping the very top above the words. I also read online that the items listed when you click on the 'three bars' depends on what you are doing at that particular time. For instance, if I am reading my book, the landscape/portrait option should be listed as an option. Mine does not do that. I believe my Paperwhite to be faulty. I do not like that feature. I would like ALL items to be listed in the menu. I agree with you, it is a poor design.
