The black kindle keyboard is in stock, but the white shows only from "sellers". Does anyone know if that means Amazon will restock soon or is it gone now for good?

No one here knows Rhonda. Call and ask amazon.

We dedicated KK users are hoping against hope for a newer updated model in the future.

It seems unlikely that will happen. But then again, I said that Apple would NEVER betray its consumer base by coming out with an iPad 4 six months after the 3. So what do I know?

I love my kk but it's starting to show signs of age. I hate the thought of not being able to replace it with a new one. I don't like touch screens and this one does everything I need it to do.

I agree! I just bought a new kk because I do not want touch screen for reading. I have an IPAD and don't use it to read on. I love my kk.

FWIW, Rhonda, I also thought I will miss keyboard or at least physical page advance buttons, but now find reading on my PW at least as smooth as on KK. PW is now my primary reader, and KK is lent indefinitely to a friend.

Just finished chatting with Amazon support. Apparently my kk is still under warenty. They are sending me another one. I'm sure it will be a refurbished one and that's fine. This is the second time I've had an issue with my kk. It's blacking out the bottom of the screen when I put it on text to talk and put it on pause for several hours. I knew they would replace it. My concern is what to do when the warrenty is out and I want a new one. I'm thinking of trying to buy a new KK if I can find one just for back up when the time comes. I love it that much. Being able to read in full sun light, having it read to me.... what more can a person want? They told me they aren't making them any more (at least for now). It was a great device and I just hate it that they stopped making it.

Does the PW have text to talk and can you see the screen in bright sunlight? I couldn't find that info on amazon.

No to text-to-speech (no audio capabilities), and yes to reading in bright sunlight (it has an eink display).

I really hope the KK receives an update.
The KK is one of the very few reasons I even picked up reading.
It had the middle ground between an e-reader and tablet. Music, internet, games, but a higher focus on reading.
It was a $139 gamble that worked out amazingly. I never thought I would like reading, but heck, bigger changes have happened.

I purchased a few 3G KK's on eBay in the last few months as I assumed Amazon would eventually stop selling them. While I have other models of the Kindle (PW, Fire HD), I think the KK is really a super device and would not want to be without one.

Me either, Paxton. I have 4 KKs and a Touch. Not worried if the Touch dies, but am totally prepared to always have a KK on hand. To me, nothing beats them.

I love my Touch and would be devastated if it died and I had to get a Paperwhite (the screen feels rough)

I gave my fire to my son and bought a KK. The pW having no sound is a deal breaker for me. I use the talk feature way too much not to have it. I didn't realize my kk was still under warenty. :-)

It does, but the anti-glare screen protectors are slick. It takes away that odd cat tongue feeling.

Dragi Raos says:
Ah, I prefer that rough screen to Fire's slick one - the latter always feels kind of greasy (never mind that it often *is* (o: )

CBRetriever says:
the Touch is about halfway in between the two - no fingerprints and no slick feeling, but it's not rough like the paperwhite

I also hope that Amazon realizes that there are a lot of us that prefer Kindle Keyboard. I was an early adopter and until today have always owned a working Kindle since the Kindle 1 was first introduced. My Kindle Keyboard with 3G stopped working, hard reset did not fix it. I was prepared to buy a new Kindle Keyboard and was shocked and disappointed to find it was no longer available. Purchased a Kindle Paperwhite but just sent it back. It is more like reading on a tablet. The Kindle Keyboard was a great device for reading. I may have to start going to the library and patronizing independent book stores again.

Palmetto says:
DDW, I still think the K3 is the ultimate in an e-reader. I have hoarded a few just so I won't be without someday. I love the 3G which has come in handy many times, the Text to Speech, the ability to load music, get library books direct and the text to speech. I own a Touch and a Fire, too, and find no comparison for reading books. We've lost a lot along the way to the new models.

CBRetriever says:
and myself, I own an earlier Kindle 2, a Touch and a Paperwhite and I adore my Touch and do most of my reading on it - having to use a toggle to go places instead of just selecting something on the screen drives me crazy

I beg to differ. IMO, the Touch and the Paperwhite are far superior to the KK (I own all of them.)

Ain't it grand that there are differing models that appeal to different people? I, myself, enjoy "reading" on the basic but I LOVE the Kindle Keyboard. That doesn't diminish anyone else's preference for touch-screen models or anything else.

I mourn the inability to get a new Kindle Keyboard. If I'd known they were going to be discontinued I'd have bought as many as my funds would have allowed.

DIfferent people have different preferences.

I have both the Keyboard and the Paperwhite. The Paperwhite it nice but if they made a updated Keyboard with technology of the Paperwhite I would order one in a second. I prefer the physical buttons over the touchscreen but love the new screen and light of the Paperwhite.

My mother is 85 and has low vision. The KK is the only e-reader that she is able to use. It has a voice guide that reads the menu options to her as the print can only be enlarged in a book. She would NEVER use a touchscreen.

I have a kindle kk that is 3 years old. If I ever have to replace it I hope I can get another kk. I have a Fire and do not want a touch screen on my reader! I hope amazon is listening!
