Welcome to Free books and Chat. come on in and browse through the links there are always lots of free books. Have a seat in our overstuffed chairs and put you feet up on the hassocks as settle yourself in to read the latest treasure you've dredged up out of thousands of free indie publishers or perhaps you were lucky enough to catch one of your favorite well know author's book while it was free.

There's coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the decanters on the counter. On the counter there's a variety of freshly baked jelly and cream filled doughnuts apple fritters and I tripled the order of maple bars because they were so popular. Ice cold milk...whole lowfat skim and soy....is in the fridge beneath.

Leo Little says:
Here is another research paper/anecdote I'd written a while back when I was looking up information on the Kachina legends.

Corruption and greed led to the destruction of the first world by fire. Only the chosen were saved by taking refuge with the Ant-People who dwelt in the subterranean spaces beneath the earth.
Likewise the second world was destroyed this time by ice because it people failed to follow the teachings of the people who walk among the stars, the Katchina. The Ant-People once again provided sustenance and care for the Katchina's chosen even though many of their own people starved when the surface turned to ice.
The third world was destroyed by water and though the Ant-People had helped the Katchina's chosen twice before, they were not warned or protected from the raging waters that poured into their homes from the surface. Many died.
Nezo, leader of the surviving tribes of the Ant-People, swore he and his people would do all they could to stop the senseless destruction of the fourth world as the Katchina prophecies told of setting the very elements afire in a nuclear holocaust that would utterly destroy the Ant-People along with the billions of surface dwellers who failed to give patronage to the Katchina.
The Katchina prophecy noted nine signs that would precede the destruction of the fourth world.
The First Sign: Told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, the lost brother, but these men would take the land that was not theirs, and they would strike their enemies down with sticks of thunder.
The Second Sign: The chosen would see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices.
The Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns will overrun the land in large numbers.
The Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron.
The Fifth Sign: The land shall be crisscrossed by a giant spider's web.
The Sixth Sign: The land shall be crisscrossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun.
The Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it.
The Eighth Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like my people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn their ways and wisdom.
The Ninth and final Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star.
After this, the ceremonies of the chosen will cease. Pahana the true white brother would return to the fold of the chosen and help restore the land to its rightful people. He will come bearing two signs.

March 13, 1938
Nazi Germany took over Austria

Nezo did not wait until all of the signs had come to pass. He took counsel with the elders of the Ant-People tribes on that very day. A unanimous decision was made. The Americans would be their best ally against the Katchina. Contact must be made.

Oct. 30, 1938
Nezo and a selected delegation of Ant-People Scientist emerged from the salt mines near Detroit in one of the ancient ships that brought his people from the moon eons before. They were ready to meet with the American President along with representatives from England and Russia.
The Ship was seen. Radios blared into homes telling of Martian landings. Contact with these people would not be easy. They were much more timid than the chosen people of the Katchina, but at this point Nezo had no other choice.
He looked at his reflection and compared it to a photo of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He noted how pale his skin was, a shadow his origin, the moon. The natives called Roosevelt a white man, but his skin was a rosy pink compared to the grayish moonlike skin of the Ant-People. Nezo's head was much larger and he lacked the hair that covered the pate of most humans. The rest of Nezo's features were small and spindly as opposed to the bulky human torso and massive legs. He traced the short stubby fingers of a human hand on the ships glass-like window and placed his hand over the image. His fingers stretched to twice the length of the President's. Were these people ready for what he brought? Could they be trusted? Were they responsible people? He pondered whether today's action would thwart the Katchina prophecy or bring about its fulfillment. His only other choice was to sit back and let Pahana and the Katchina destroy another world along with his brethren. The choice was made and all agreed it was time to show the humans how to harness the power of the atoms.

January 26. 1939 The first experimental fission in the U.S. takes place at Columbia University.

September 1, 1939
Germany invades Poland. World War II begins.

June 15, 1940
The University of California begins building a giant cyclotron under the direction of Ernest O. Lawrence. Edwin McMillan bombards uranium with neutrons and produces the first "transuranic" element, neptunium (Atomic Number 93). This leads to the eventual development of plutonium (Atomic Number 94).

October 9, 1941
President Roosevelt decides to proceed with development of an atomic weapon after a meeting in which he is informed of its feasibility.

December 6, 1941
The day before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt authorized the Manhattan Engineering District. The secret U.S. project to build an atomic bomb, later to be called theManhattan Project, is put under the direction of the Office of Scientific Research and Development.

Good morning ⚫ afternoon ⚫ evening everyone! A Freebie to begin the day . . .

Angel Fall - Fantasy

THE WIND WE KNOW IS ONLY A SHADOW OF SOMETHING FAR GREATER.

Lightning is falling in sheets.

A wind is blowing that is larger than this world.

In the middle of the strangest storm in all of history an airliner crashes into the ocean and only three young people survive - a brother and his two sisters. But they are not together and the ocean is not on earth.

Alex, Amanda, and Tori Lancaster have entered Boreth, a world of ancient devastation and deep evil ruled by the Worwil - seven creatures of immense power who existed before any world began. Through this world they must travel into terror and temptation, every choice taking them closer to endless night. Scarred with the fires of hell and heaven, their pasts are torn from their souls.

But shadowing each of them is a mysterious Being covered with scars who has faced ten-thousand battles. A Being filled with the longing of ages. A longing to heal the brokenhearted.

With dark, glistening strands from Lewis, Lovecraft and Tolkien, the cloth of Angel Fall has been woven. But the journey it weaves is not just for Alex, Amanda and Tori ... it is for all those who cannot find their way home.

You two are just wonderful saving the day(s) for FB&C thank you for your timely offers, I hope that it is appreciated by all posters and lurkers, that it seems to be the same people who start every day, it would be so nice to have some new faces picking up a start, if I can do it then anyone can. :-)
Thank you to all the "Regulars" for keeping FB&C a daily thread ♥

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 10, 2013 3:03:41 AM PDT
My pleasure redandwhite. You are correct... We are desperately in need thread starters. Summer is coming and it's a time when people often go on vacation. We are already short of daily thread starters and if one of us goes on vacation then we will really be in a bind.

We need a few people to step up and volunteer to start the FB&C thread on occasion. If you can copy and paste then the start is fairly simple and we will be happy to help you through it.

~~~~~ Please consider volunteering to be a FB&C thread starter ~~~~~
My first start was the day after Leo.... Hard act to follow Right??
But it wasn't hard to do...
Even now when I'm busy at work I just copy and paste a part of the thread from the day before..
Please, Give it a try!!!
Past Forward- A Serial Novel: Episode 25 by Chautona Havig
Publication Date: May 4, 2013
Past Forward is a serial novel released weekly on Kindle.
Alone without friends or family to comfort her after the death of her mother, Willow Finley's idyllic life is over-and just beginning.
When Willow Finley awakes on a hot summer morning, she is unprepared for the grief that awaits her. Jerked from a life of isolation with her mother, Willow learns what alone really means when she finds her mother still in her bed, never to awaken again in this life.
From the moment Willow arrives in the police station with her startling announcement, Chad Tesdall fights the friendship he knows he can't avoid.
In this Episode,a man from the past a man in the present both become enamored--almost obsessed--with Walden Farm. Wedding preparations are in earnest and from three sides. Willow continues to adapt to life as the mother of three, and Chad turns on his over-protective side. Look out for an ending that gives a hint of Episode 26 away!
