Unlike the other Kindles that used to list archived books in an actual collection called "Archive Items", anything on the paperwhite is either on the device or in the Amazon Cloud. So once your done reading just press and hold the book and when the menu pops up click "delete from the device" and it will free up the space on the device and you will still see it in your cloud list. Hope that makes sense.

actually anything downloaded to the paperwhite will be on the cloud also (it's not an either/or situation). all digitals purchases made through amazon will automatically be saved in the cloud and will always be there whether downloaded to a device or not (at least until you personally delete it from the account). many people have the same book downloaded on more than one device at a time (which could only be done if they were always in the cloud)

The paperwhite is no different than previous kindles, they just changed the name from Archive to Cloud. Function is no different.

Yes, it is different from the other e-ink Kindles. All of the others, you had to select "Menu" to see the Archives choice. On the Paperwhite, the "Cloud/On Device" choice is right on the main screen as a selection.

But you're right that the functions of "Archive" and "Cloud" are the same.

How do I DELETE on paperwhite

Long-touch the title. Choose delete.

If it's an Amazon book, long-press and select "Remove from Device."

Note: If the title is a loan notice (library books or books you've borrowed from a friend) a book sample, or, especially, a non-Amazon book that's on your Kindle, the choice will read "Delete"--that means that particular document will NOT go in your Cloud and will be permanently deleted.
