DittieFurkey says:
If you're asking about borrowing from your local public library, you can borrow without an actual Kindle device. If you mean from the Kindle *Owners* Lending Library, you have to have a Kindle, not an app, hence the inclusion of the word "Owners."

Edited to clarify

What, that Amazon gives a perk to Kindle owners? Or that some people are never happy not because of what they don't have but because of what others do?

Why would you think you might be able to borrow from the Kindle Owners Lending Library if you don't actually own a Kindle?

Maybe having paid for Amazon Prime should be enough to borrow a book once a month on my Kindle app for Ipad.....I'm just saying.....

Presumably you signed up for Prime for the free 2-day shipping. The rest is a fringe benefit.

DittieFurkey says:
Maybe it should continue to be left to Amazon to decide what perks it includes with its shipping program. Just sayin' . . . for the gajillionth time.

And maybe Amazon added this particular perk to reward and encourage Kindle ownership among it's Prime customers. Oh, wait, that's exactly what they did, never mind.

And maybe you guys are all mean since it was a legitimate question. I happen to have 2 kindles, 3 androids and an ipad and it still wasn't clear to me.

Maybe it was a legitimate question. It was also answered within minutes of being asked.

The OP then chose to respond by editorializing ("so sad!"), and people responded to that.

Perhaps you should try the Kindle Help Forum. I'm told a much better class of helpers may be found there.

Maybe paying $79.00 per year to borrow one free book per month is silly beyond compare.

If the phrase "Kindle owners" in the "Kindle Owners Lending Library" was "not clear" to you, then you should enroll in a Remedial English course.

Amazon has to pay the publisher for each book borrowed from the KOLL. That is a good enough reason to limit it to Kindle owners only. They's go broke if everyone who just had an app could borrow a book, even though they're mostly very cheap books.

A library card from the Philly Free Library (free for in-state or $50 for out of state) would be much smarter. A vast selection of books, allow 6 out at a time and unlimited borrowing abilities.
