I am new to this so step by step would be appreciate. How do I get a public library book to my Kindle DX to read. Everything I try seems to be wrong. Thanks!

You'll need to access your public library (that has Overdrive) through a computer. The eink Kindles can't handle any popup screens. Find the book you want to borrow and if it's available (at my library that's a miracle - there are lines for almost every title!), borrow it - using the Kindle version.

Access your archives and download the book (if the DX uses wifi and not 3G - I don't have one and don't remember what I've read on here).

The DX had 3G only, so the OP will need to transfer it using the instructions at http://www.amazon.com/kindletransfer.
