I just stumbled upon this accidentally: Using the Audible app and the same book on both my iPhone and iPod Touch, if you refresh the content, it will remember where you stopped listening on the other device. Then I downloaded the same book to the Fire HD and it popped up a box that said where it had left off and asked if I wanted to go there. So, it appears that if you have two or more of these devices, you can switch back and forth with the one you are listening to. With the Fire HD, it might be well it press the sync button just to be sure. I can't imagine why Amazon is not making a big production of the ability to do this. I cannot even find it mentioned anywhere in the help files, only the ability to sync between the Kindle book and the Audible book. Someone might want to try this between one of the iOS devices and the other Kindles which will play audiobooks. I think it is very cool.

It has been around for a while. There are two variations: Whispersync for Voice (any Kindle with audio) and Immersion Reading (currently only available with Apple products, I think. Don't know if the new Fires can use this or not.)

Best explained here -

The best (and worst) of this is the frequently discounted price for the associated audible version when you download the Kindle version of a book first. This is costing me a LOT of money! Can't seem to turn away from these "deals."
