Still dust/gray spots, after 2 replacements!

I had my first Kindle (paperwhite 2nd gen) replaced because there were lots of dust-like spots on it (as others have mentioned). They were not easy to see, so it took me a few days to notice them.

The second one I received had the same issue, except that the screen looked much more yellow (first one was pretty much white and bright) and also there was a shadow at one corner.

The third Kindle, received just today, still has the dust spots and its brightness is even less than the previous one.

They are now sending me a 4th Kindle. I told the CS representative that if all of them have these spots, then I'm fine with it and I don't want another replacement, but she said the spots were not normal.

I don't have much hope. In fact each Kindle I receive is worse than the previous one. At first I was impressed with how easily the CS sends a replacement, but now I feel like they don't have any quality control and thus know themselves that they are shipping crap to people.

I'm also confused about the displays. Right now I am putting the 3 Kindles side by side and each one has a different brightness. How's that possible?! (brightness put on max on all three)

Anyone else experiencing these issues? Any ideas?

Well they are man made, so... things can go wrong. The two that we have look great and are pretty evenly lit. I have not noticed any spots on either one.

My very first PW (a 1st gen) was practically perfect right out of the box. The only flaw is one tiny little pixel that shines through. It's smaller than a pinprick; I don't even notice it now.

But then there's a poster around here who was trying to buy like a dozen of them as an extended family gift, and had to return no fewer than (I think) 9 or 10 of them in a row because of discoloration, etc...

So I think that clearly there can be "bad runs". A machine not calibrated right, etc...

Know what is rather ironic? I heard that the mega Paperwhite person finally purchased a 2nd generation Paperwhite 3G just last night instead of waiting for the Paperwhite 3rd generation.

I wonder if she should have waited? :o/

Well, there's always that 30-day refund thing. I wonder what she'll think about the Cloud Collections thing. That has some people smoking out their ears.

Really? Why?

I only have the 1st gen PW. But with the 2nd gen, from what I understand, they sync ALL of your Account's Collections across ALL platforms.

Your teen daughter's Collections AND your husband's Collections AND your Collections AND your kiddoes' Collections AAAAALLLLL on Every.Single.Damn.Device.

They see everyone's Collections. YOU see EVERYONE'S Collections. Dozens and dozens of Collections on every device. Maybe someone here with a 2nd gen can confirm whether that's been fixed, but it caused no small clishmaclaver.

Good grief. That sounds like the gen 1 KF.

Mine didn't do it. I was gritting my teeth, waiting to see all of my son's goofy Collections, but it never happened. But when the 2nd gens came out of the box, with the Cloud Collections thingummy, holy mackerel! People were livid; they had to spend hours correcting everything.

At one point, CS was saying, "Sorry. Thems the breaks. Nothing we can do. Deal with it." But I haven't heard talk about whether they corrected the mess.

When you PW 1 updates to the lastest software you will see ALL the collections you ever made on any Kindle on the account. I had collections show up that no longer existed on my KK.

CARP! That's what I was afraid of. But...still hasn't happened, yet. [unhappiness and dread]

Plus, every time you go to add a book to a collection it has to sync. I am used to turning on wifi, downloading books, turning off wifi and then putting in collections. It keeps asking "do you want to turn on wifi?". NO! I just want to put these books in collections.

Also, the first few days after the update, you need to plug it in and leave on the wifi so all those collections sync up.

I never had that happen when my PW 1 updated.

You have the new update? The one that just came out? It has cloud collections.

Remind me how to check which version I'm running on the PW1. [tapping around in there]

And it *remembers* OLD Collections? Love a duck. I feel violated.

The only way to avoid it is to NEVER turn on wifi ever again.

I think it must remember the Collections that I didn't delete. I had just done a factory reset on my KK, not a delete each Collection.

Which is what I've read some people have done. But I use my PW for my Prime borrows and my Kindle Firsts. Grrrrr! Do.Not.Want.

I wonder if I removed all the Collection-able devices from the account before the update goes through?

Or am I skrooed either way?
