If I have more than one kindle can I use the same Amazon account for downloads? Also, can I view the movies I have purchased on both units?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 9, 2012 3:50:13 PM PST
Yes to both, assuming both are Fires (since you can't watch movies on the other Kindles).

Prime streaming movies can only be watched on 2 devices at one time though.

Yes and yes. I don't know about the movies but with books it will download to the default Kindle and you will need to download them separately to the other one.

I just bought a paperwhite kindle. I want my 1st kindle which is a kindle fire to be the default where the books I download automatically go. But currently, the drop down menu makes me choose and the paperwhite is the first one on the list. How do I change this. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure, but I think one of these ways might work:
Go to your Manage Your Devices

Click on the words Kindle Name on the top of the bar - that moves them around, maybe you can get the one you want to the top?

try clicking on device Type to get the Kindle Fire to the top

Maybe it's by alphabetical order? You can rename the one you want to be first on your Manage Your Devices page.

Please reply and tell us if it works

great news our family would like a second kindle fire, and we were wondering about a mutual prime membership.I'd hope that with a single Amazon account, that is possible

CBRetriever says:
you can't

as of right now, e-ink kindles will always sort ahead of android devices/apps (kindle fire is considered one)

and the e-ink kindles sort alphabetically, followed by the android devices sorted alphabetically - you cannot move them around

Bart Samyn says:
Correct but you can change the name of your kindle and thus change the order

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 8, 2013 2:38:22 AM PST
Yes, you can change the names and thus change the order, but only up to a point. CBR is right - e-ink kindles will still be listed before kindle apps, which includes the Fire (since it's actually an android tablet with the kindle app pre-installed).

But only the order of the non-Fire devices. The Fire devices will always be listed after the non-Fire devices.

Dave Roth - Yes, just register all the Kindles to the same Amazon account.

To consolidate two existing kindle accounts into one family account do I need to de-register one of the kindles and re-register it to the second account? If so do I lose anything (books, etc) in the process? I'm hoping to hear there is a "move my device to" button! janer

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 11, 2013 1:46:42 PM PDT
You can deregister one Kindle and reregister it to another account. If it's a Fire, any content on the device will be erased from the device. Content will remain in the account that purchased it.

No matter which Kindle you have, you cannot transfer content from one account to another.

That's not good.... Thanks for the info, Cassie Ann.

You can always leave each device registered to its original account, and buy one (or two) $69 Kindle, 6" E Ink Display, Wi-Fi - Includes Special Offers (Black). Register one to each account, and use them as loaner Kindles.

Person A can have access to Person B's account by reading on the Kindle Basic registered to B's account, and vice-versa.

Good idea. I'm reading on an old basic kindle so if/when I upgrade I can implement the loaner idea. Thanks so much.

I have 4 kindles, 1 kindle fire, 2 kindle version 3.4, and the first kindle that came out. I am trying to figure out how to manage my account where I can see all of the books I have bought. I wish to delete something permanently from the archives. All of my kindles share the books. Is there a way to permanently delete a book?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 12, 2013 7:43:05 AM PDT
TuxGirl says:
You can permanently delete a book at It will be gone for good and the only way to get it back would be to buy it again.

WhAt problem are you having with trying to see all your books on all devices?
