Userva3 says:
I'm trying to figure this out to. I've checked support and every place possible on the Fire but I don't see a 'share with Facebook' when I highlight something I'm reading. Is this option no longer available with the Fire? I can access Facebook through the Fire but I can't seem to share what I'm reading as easily as I could with the Kindle 2nd Generation.

UPDATE 11/26/2011: Below is the response I got when I submitted feedback about this. I highly suggest those missing this feature click on the feeback or help section and inquire as to when or if this will be in the next update for the Fire.

At this time, sharing the highlighted text with Facebook feature is not available on Kindle Fire.

I've forwarded your concern and suggestions to our development team and we'll consider your feedback as we plan further improvements. We regularly update our Kindle and Kindle application software with added features. I've let the Kindle team know you're interested in this feature.

We'll consider your feedback as we plan further improvements. It is always important for us to hear how customers react to all aspects. Your valuable feedback will help us to improve the selection and service we provide and we're glad you took time to write to us.

We do value the feedback of our customers and make every attempt to integrate their comments or suggestions into our stores and procedures.

As always, please feel free to contact us should you have future suggestions, questions or comments. We have team of experts who takes into consideration each and every feedback of our customers and brings them into practice.

Thank you for using Kindle.

I am having the same issue. If I want to share something I have to highlight it in my kindle and later use the ipod kindle app to share it to facebook. Frustrating. I hope they address the issue in a patch very soon.

Bummed. I loved this feature on the ipad app. I want to be able to share quotes out on my twitter feed. The fire would be great for microbloggling while reading texts. A great way to promote books and authors, which is key part of Amazon's core business.

I downloaded a different app than is on Amazon. I can share to Facebook from it.

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 25, 2011 11:28:57 PM PST
Would it be possibly for you to share the name of the app with us?

Rev. Kenny says:
having a side load app may do it but i believe it voids your warranty and/or will break the licensing agreements which would mean you would no longer be able to legally stream prime content. a guess is that the ability to share a highlight native-ly from the book itself is gone. shame too as i was making pretty decent money through amazon associate's program by sharing relative quotes and then getting paid when friends on facebook would click through and buy the book. I imagine that since they sell the fire at a loss, they have to be stingy about lost revenue should no one ever buy another thing from them. but you would think that that would be the backwards logic since my experience is that when I share a highlight, someone else buys the book. go figure. everyone is tightening their belts in this economy.

Sea Lawyer, I respect your OPINION, but disagree.

Also disappointed about this. I loved this feature and assumed it would be on fire since fire is a superior device.

I second the motion! This needs to be added....

I miss this feature too!

Need to share on twitter even more important. Really miss this. It is one place Nook Color is far superior.

I am very disappointed that the Kindle Fire is not able to perform this function. It seems a bit ridiculous not to have such an important and well-utilized feature in the brand new product. I certainly hope it will be available in an update, rather than in a Kindle Fire 2 that you will expect us to purchase.

Dan Butcher says:
As Userva3 suggested above, contact Amazon's customer support. I contacted them about this a few days ago and received much the same reply--so clearly, they have a canned response.

But hopefully they are actually logging these requests and will focus on the ones that get more support.

Tom Arnone says:
You are ralking about "Rooting" the Kindle Fire. Side-loading apps has no such effect....

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 9, 2011 5:34:45 PM PST
Dan Butcher says:
Thomas, you are correct about the distinction between side-loading and rooting.

The Fire explicitly allows side-loading, with an option in settings to allow installation of apps from other sources besides the Amazon Apps Store.

Yes this is a disappointment, I loved that feature!

I do hope this feature will be added in the future. I valued it on my "old" Kindle.

I use my old kindle for this feature. The fire seems primative comparedto the older kindles

+1. It is collosally annoying that I can't share to Twitter and Facebook instantly like I can on the Kindle Touch. The iPad share is annoying because you can only pick Facebook or Twitter, not both simultaneously. And the Fire should never lag behind any other device when it comes to Kindle content or features (where's XRay, for instance). Sigh.
