Can you use Facebook Chat on new Kindle 3g

I am shopping for a Kindle for my wife for Christmas and trying to decide between the wi-fi and 3G versions. What could decide for me if you can chat on facebook with the 3G. We are vacationing in Jamaica and the resort doesn't have free wi-fi, so my wife was hoping to be able to chat with the kids back home with the kindle 3G. If you can chat, then that would seem to tip the scales towards 3G. Thanks for any help.

You can post to Facebook, but there is no way to chat with a Kindle. It's not a tablet PC, it's an e-reader, made specifically for reading e-books. The browsing is sluggish and best on sites coded for mobile devices. There is no Flash or Video etc.

possible, yes. But not advisable. Its the main reason my Kindle freezes on me.

You cannot use FB chat on a Kindle.

Posting works, but you have to understand the limitations of the browser and be patient. Clicking too many things will cause it to freeze.

In the "real time" chat window? Back and forth with the person you're chatting with?

Does 3G coverage exist in Jamaica?

The service is through AT&T. You would have to check the coverage maps.

I checked the map and it looks like all of Jamaica is covered by AT & T.

Did you get any additional charges while using it in Jamaica?

Rob, I can now FB chat, having installed friendcaster this morning. Downside...it has to be opened in a seperate window outside FB. I started a topic on this right after I got my Fire 11/25. Loving my Fire. Marcia
