I converted a few AVI movies to .mp4 and then tried putting them on my Kindle Fire by connecting the device to my PC and then copying the files into the Videos folder.

They're not showing up on my KF when I hit the Video tab at the top of the home screen.

I can see that these mp4 videos are on my KF when I look at it in Explorer, but how do I actually watch them on the KF? I can't find them!

I have read on here you have to watch them from teh gallery. My son's fire is still in the box, so that's the best I can do.

They are not in the gallery, and I can't find them by Search either.

When you're using an iPhone or iPod you have to "sync" it in order to finalize the transfer of files from your computer to the device, is there an equivalent step for the Fire that I'm missing?

You could try another video player app like Meridian Player in the app store.

I was able to play dvd movies by converting them with handbrake on a mac, sending them to the fire via usb cable, dropped them in the root folder, unmounted the fire from the mac using the disconnect button on the fire, then went to apps, the gallery, then they showed up and play fine. Looked great on the screen. Trying to get it to fill the screen with no black bars on top and side right now, anyone know what the best size would be to remove the bars???

Just downloaded a mp4. Place it in the video folder, go to gallery, you'll see the mp4 and select to play.

I finally figured this out too. I attached the Fire to my computer and copied the mp4 file to the Video folder. I didn't realize the Gallery was listed under the Apps. Once I figured how to get to the Gallery, I was able to see and view my videos. I guess I will have a bit of learning to do! This reminds me of when I first got my smartphone (Droid.)
Good luck everybody.

Is there anyway to download videos to the cloud drive and use this to upload to the kindle fire instead of hooking it up directly to my computer? I have tried a few times and they never show up. I did convert to mp4.

You can stream videos and music from you pc to kindle fire. Download and install skifta from the app store but you will have to sideload moboplayer or mx video player.

Downloaded mp4 are easy, it's the ones you create or want to transfer from a non-amazon purchased file that are hard.

It takes too long to upload large files to the cloud, it's best to figure out a way via the hard connection from computer to fire. No answer here thus far, anyone?

Edit: How to find your MP4, MP4's, in Kindle Fire HD.

Okay, I found my personal mp4's. I transferred them from my mac to Kindle fire hd via an I somehow clicked my way through amazon to putting this app onto my mac which I use to transfer data.) I found my personal MP4 under APPS>PERSONAL VIDEO. Make sure "device" is clicked and not "cloud". Amazon is not making it easy to put our own stuff on the kindle fire, they really are focused on facilitating purchased books and videos from them. Anytime you need to find info OTHER than that, you have to wade through tons of sales pitches and how-tos regarding their own purchased data.
