I'm based in the UK and while I can see my book for sale on Kindle in the US on amazon.com I cannot see it on amazon.fr or .de for example, where I can only order a hard copy. Anyone know why?
Thanks,

Because there are different copyright laws that have to be followed. Publishers have to make the books available for your country.

The only Amazon sites that currently sell ebooks are the US and UK sites. If you want to sell your ebook on the UK site you will need to list it there.

is there a way to purchase UK listed books in US by re registering a US kindle in UK and viceversa and then registering in the proper country?

I have a Kindle registered in the US and I do most of my books shopping at amazon.com (US). I follow some British writers and I have in the past purchased hardbacks and paperbacks from amazon.co.uk (UK) but I cannot purchase a Kindle book there. The series I am collecting has 13 of its 20 books available in Kindle versions. In the UK all 20 are available. This is not a copyright issue (formats are not copyrighted) since I can purchase the British version in either hardback or paperback just not in Kindle format. If the US store is not going to carry these 7 books in Kindle format, I feel I should be able to buy them form the UK store, just as I did in the past with hardbacks and paperbacks.

Eileen there is a difference between paper books and Kindle books. When you purchase a paper book the sale is considered to be where the seller is, in this case the UK. They can then be shipped anywhere in the world but the sale was done in the UK.

With Ebooks the sale is considered to be your location which is the US. The publisher of British writers does no have the rights to sell them in the US. To purchase Ebooks from the UK site you have to be a UK resident.

It is very much a copyright issue. You can purchase and import physical goods with no problems.

E-book distribution rights are not the same thing as copyright. If Amazon had the legal right to sell those e-books in the US, they would be available here, there would be no need to go to .uk; they would be available right here at .com.

It's a licensing issue. Whichever publisher has the rights to publish the books digitally in the US (the rights are sold for all of North America) has for some reason not yet done so. I'm certain Amazon would sell these books to you if they could but they can't do so without violating their agreement with a particular author/publisher.
