As I have said on a couple of thread on this forum, this happened to me. I was in FreeTime and I was just checking it out - I hadn't set up a password or anything, when I tried to get out, I couldn't without entering a login and password I haven't ever set up. Frustrating.

To the point: try to log in 5-6 times, just enter in jibberish in each field as if you are attempting to log in. After 5-6 attempts, the program offers you a way to reset your login and password - do that - remember to write it down - and then enter it, and then get out.

This is a flaw in the FreeTime program, in my opinion. You shouldn't be locked into the program if you haven't ever entered the program with a login and password.

Good luck!!

The parental controls password is used several places on the device. You probably created a password when prompted but then forgot about it.

The only way to restore the device is to unregister or reset it. You can reset the device from FreeTime by entering the incorrect password 5 times and then tapping the "reset your Kindle to factory defaults" link. It doesn't reset your parental controls password. Instead, it resets your entire device. You'll need to register it to you Amazon account again. There will be no parental controls password on the device at this point. It would probably be a good idea to deliberately create one and write it down. You can create a parental controls password by selecting "Parental Controls" in the settings menu and turning on Parental Controls. The first time you use it, you have to set a password.

Jeremy: I never created a password for parental controls. I went in and was looking at the features and then when I tried to get out, I couldn't. This was all in the span of about 10 minutes, tops.

What you described isn't the way I got out of FreeTime. I was on the phone with the CS rep and he de- and then re-registered my device while I waited. When my Kindle 8.9 HD went through the re-start motions, it came back up to the exact same screen of the frozen, login-required, FreeTime screen.

He had me hold for a couple of minutes and then came back on the line and told me about entering the password 5 times. When I did that, I didn't get a de-register prompt. I got a reset password prompt and when I reset a password (to replace the non-existing one) I was taken to FreeTime, where I logged out and haven't been back in since.

So, if you were able to get out of FreeTime your way, yours in an additional way to do it, though, I don't think anyone would want to deregister their device just to get out of the darned thing. It's a pain to add back all of your stuff you need from the cloud.

It should be easier to retrieve a forgotten password or, here's a thought, how about not assigning a password without the user's knowledge?

Where else are parental controls used on the device?

Looks like there's an older thread on this same issue and one of the posters got out the way I did. But figured it out without Amazon CS.
