If you already have a Nook to read on why are you considering an Amazon product? One of the Nook tablets would let you read your Nook books easily. You can sideload the Nook app on the Fire (at least on teh first generation one...I did that on mine) and read Nook books but, from what you've said above it really doesn't seem like you need a tablet. I do read on my Fire. I also play games and watch videos. I've managed to rip quite a few of my DVDs so I can sideload those to the Fire and watch them whenever I want without WiFi access. I also read a lot of fan fiction and I have converted into with PDF or .mobi files and I read those stories on my Fire. I find it to be a nice mulit-entertainment device. I do not consider it to be a productive device. I use my netbook computer for work purposes.

If you have to hunt for a reason then you obviously don't need one.

Unless I missed it, he doesn't say he has a Nook, unless his e-ink is Nook.
He's trying to decide between a Fire and a Nook if he decides to get one at all.
