Hi,
I'm brand new to Kindle. I purchased a book on Amazon and expected to read it on my kindle. It showed up in the cloud but it wouldn't let me download. Are there some Kindle books not yet ready for Paperwhite? I'm also looking for beginner tutorials.
Thx for help & suggestions,
Laurie

Here's a link to the on line manual for your Paperwhite -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_sib?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200953940

Just make sure the Paperwhite is registered to the same account as you purchased a book and the sync your Paperwhite. The book should show up.

You can also go to your Manage Your Kindle page - on right click on devices and ensure that your Paperwhite is listed there. If not, then you did not register or it is not registered to the same account

Make sure your kindle shows up on the same account that you purchased the book from.
There is a new online self help
https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-service/problem-solver?#1

I would suggest checking out the Paperwhite pages under Kindlesupport.

CBRetriever says:
you have to make sure you have wireless on when you click to download a book - try this bunch of things to try:

1. Turn on wireless and do a sync and check for new items
2. next, look in your archives/cloud and see if it's there - if so click on it and it will download
3. go to your Manage Your Kindle page on http://amazon.com, hover over the actions button next to the title and select send to Kindle (make sure you pick the correct kindle if you have more than one registered to your account), then turn on your wireless and do a sync and check for new items
4. reboot/reset your kindle (fully charged, unplugged, wireless on, hold power button in for 30 seconds), then start at step 1
4.a. Deregister then reregister if you have an e-ink kindle then start at step 1 - DO NOT do this if you have a Kindle Fire
5. try to send it to your kindle through usb ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_k4land_trans_usb?nodeId=200728710#usb )
6. contact customer support using the orange Contact Us button to the right

Wifi is good.

On my Kindle > Cloud, I see an image of the book I bought online. When I tap on it, I get a message " Unavailable for Download"
"The item is not compatible with this device."

Bixillarla says:
Then the book you purchased is not compatibe on the Eink kindles. There are some books like that especially childrens books, technical books, etc.

What book was it? If you look on the product page it will say which devices that book will work on.

Pegasus says:
1) done
2) cloud - it's there but won't download.
3) done - the e reader is in grey and I can't select it.
Haven't tried 4 yet... Thx for your help.

CBRetriever says:
then Bisillarla is right and it's not compatible with your e-ink kindle - I've run across several books that are this way

Including this one How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You

if you look under the price at the line that says Available only on these devices, you'll see that I could download it to my Kindle Fire, but not to any of the e-ink kindles registered to my account

And I'm going to add that a lot of people are upset about this book not being available for e-ink kindles - you might want to join them in writing to the publisher and Colbert

Pegasus says:
It says "Kindle Edition"
What does that mean?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 22, 2012 10:50:12 AM PST
CBRetriever says:
just means it's a kindle vs a paper edition

Dragi Raos says:
Pegasus, all those devices listed as supported *are* Kindles. It would seem that the publisher for some reason considered color screen essential for enjoying the book - hence no support for e-ink Kindles.

You can return the book from http://amazon.com/myk page: find it in the list of books, hover over "Actions", and select "Return for Refund" or similar.

 Ann says:
If you use the "Look Inside" feature on the product page, you'll see that there are a lot of color images, photos, and formatting that would not work very well on a 6" e-ink screen.

You are welcome, Pegasus! Again, if you bought the book within the last 7 days, you can return it for full refund from http://amazon.com/myk page.

Arual says:
But remember what Dragi Raos said - you can return it. No need to be out $11. You can use that to buy OTHER books!

I just purchased a paperwhite also. I havn't used it yet. It was intended as a Christmas gift but someone else bought that person one so I am keeping it. I would appreciate any feedback on how to download books and other important info. Thanks
