You'll see a number by the name of your kindle in the top left. That's how many alerts you have. It's usually email, but sometimes it can be other things such as completing a download. To access the alerts, just press on that number in the upper left.

You can also change the sound effect by going to: Settings --> More... --> Notification Sounds

New Kindle user. I don't ever get notifications - though I thought I am set up to have them, and with a sound?

Which Kindle? That one little piece of information is very important. Whenever you post a question, you need to include that.

My Kindle Fire is making this sound. I think it sounds like a cat meowing, my daughter thinks it sounds like a baby. It's completely random. Happens when I'm reading, happens when it's off. There is no rhyme or reason to when it does it. Anyone know anything about this?

My wife's is doing the same thing. Did you ever find out what the cause of this was? It's driving us crazy!!

My kindle fire hd started making an odd sound that is noticeable throughout use and even on standby. I can only describe it as a sound like a squeaking rocking chair. I have to power the kindle off to make it go away but it comes back a little while later.
It is definitely through the speakers and not the kindle itself.
Is there a way to reset speakers or clean out excess junk that could be causing this?

Hello I had the same problem it was the kindle notifying me that ebay was selling something it has lot of notifications for every app you put onto the kindle. To get rid of it go to the top of the kindle by the battery and internet icon hold and drag down and the notification will open up and it will give you options like delete and application go to the application nd it will open up all your apps I clicked on ebay off to turn my off this stopped the sound hope this helps lynne packer

Had the same issue on 2nd Gen Kindle Fire HD: You have to turn off notifications in more than one place. First, drag down menu for settings, go to sounds and display, check mute notifications. THEN..go back to settings, go into applications, and notification settings. You should see a list off all your applications that have notifications settings on the left, and toggle on/off switches on the right. Turn off all the ones you don't want to have notify. I tried simply just step 1-muting all notifications, and turning the volume all the way down. It wasn't enough apparently. Some apps seem to have minds of their own. It was freaking me out because all of a sudden I'd hear this noise! Hope that helps.

Kindle fire speaker squealing any solution. You cut down the volume still doesn't help. Just the left speaker

Thanks Kathleen! I did the first one too with no luck but when I followed your instructions for the 2nd part, every single notification was on! I turned them all off and hope to have a nice, quiet kindle from now on.

😩 I have a Kindle Fire HD & The screen won't turn on, nor when I plug it to charge. Though when I press the power button it makes a ding noise. I've held down the power button a couple of times to reset it, or restart it, yet nothing. What could be wrong with my kindle?
