I just started looking for a book to borrow for the month. Since Amazon launched the unlimited monthly subscription, it seems the number of books that can be borrowed for free is vastly reduced. Is it just me?

Yes, it's just you.

Just you. Nothing has changed.

Hmm. I just went to borrow a book I had previously used from the lending library and now the only option to get it is if I pay for the unlimited plan. I think the lending library has shrunk.

Have you borrowed a book in July already?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2014 6:32:10 PM PDT
The books available in the lending library come and go. This is nothing new.

Beth says:
There is possibly a small shrinkage. Initially (day 1) all KOLL books were also KU but the authors were offered that if they did not want to to take part in KU their book was pulled from both. There has been some discussion of this on the KDP forums.

Beth says:
This is a small shrinkage. Mostly it is a case of the KOLL books just not being as obvious as before. If you have borrowed a book in July then some people are not seeing the KOLL list the same way. There may be a computer glitch.

Artist says:
Right. If the Prime logo still displays on the book's product page (not necessarily displaying on list view), it's still a part of the KOLL.

"There is possibly a small shrinkage."

I'm sorry, but between this statement and the thread title, I just can't help hearing George Costanza shouting "I was in the pool!"

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2014 7:12:28 PM PDT
no..... ALL books that are KOLL are KU. Not all KU books are KOLL.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2014 7:12:48 PM PDT
were you prompted to return your prior month's loan?

kt rose says:
I haven't borrowed a book in months so it isn't that I have one already. There weren't many books I wanted on the KOLL so I guess my bad luck those few were pulled for whatever reason.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2014 8:25:36 PM PDT
which books?

And you did it from your Kindle right--not from your computer, I-pad or other non-kindle device right?

Every title I've searched in the Lending Library says Read for Free but in very tiny print underneath says with Kindle Unlimited. I have not found any free books to borrow and they all have the Prime logo on them. Can we get an answer from Amazon?

flipoid says:
You have to do the borrowing for books with the Prime logo from your Kindle. You will not see a borrow for free button when looking on your computer.

If you want an answer from Amazon then contact customer service. This is a customer discussion forum.

If it has the Prime logo, then it is available to borrow from your Kindle.

Here is a link to the KOLL page. If you scroll down a bit there is a section on how to borrow a book from your Kindle.

I finished it, I would join the unlimited plan, but I work quite a bit and read sporadically. When I do read a book, I usually finish in a day or two.

J. Bryan says:
That's what happened when I looked... I guess I go to the unlimited plan or just buy all of the book that I read.... Oh well.

J. Bryan says:
I think I can give you the company response without asking the company..... If the KOLL has been severely curtailed, it was a management decision and the customer service reps probably won't have a clue.

Just Peachy says:
Again, if it says "Prime" then it is available for borrowing through KOLL.

You have to borrow the KOLL book from your Kindle. When you use the computer to look, you WILL. NOT. SEE a borrow button, but you'll see the Prime logo on the book's product page. But you'll also see that it's a KOLL book when you look at the product page On. Your. Kindle.

Why, oh why, is this so difficult for people to understand?
