I have been downloading several newspapers to my kindle each day using Calibre. Instead of deleting them one-by-one from my personal library, is there a way to select a group to delete all at once?

Unless you have the first generation Kindle, no there isn't. K1 doesn't have "archives", they have "content manager". CM allowed you to move or delete groups of books at once. I don't know why they changed it for the K2 and forward.

You can remove them by connecting it to your computer and going into your 'documents' I generally metatag the date in the title so I know which ones that I want to get rid of.

You may have found the answer already in other threads here but anyway.
Here's a bookmarklet that allows you to mark documents you want to delete and then delete them all with a single button click:

You can reset of factory defaults, which will delete all of your content off that device. I'm not sure what you mean by "original Kindle" so I can't give you specific directions.
