My text to speech was working until I pressed pause. Now it has stopped and I cannot get it to start again. Help!

My K2i and DXG both would get wonky after pausing TTS. I usually had to restart them. I learned to just shut it off instead of pausing.

Reboot it by holding in the on and off switch for 10 seconds. CS instructed me to do so haven't had a problem since

Thank you for your responses. We restarted it and that corrected the problem. It is good to know we are not the only ones having this issue and it is not our Kindle but a system issue. Happy Holidays

My daughter began using her Kindle Touch tonight and paused the TTS. Now it doesn't work at all and I've tried rebooting several times. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I just got the dang thing about an hour ago. I was showing everybody how cool the text-to-speech is... then I pressed pause. Now I can't get it to work again. I followed the advice above, but it isn't solving the problem.

Same issue here. A hard reboot fixes it but this is obviously very annoying. Hopefully a software update on the way to resolve this, and the screen saver issue that TTS users of the Touch are complaining about?

Amadhi says:
I had the very same problem, pressing the power button for 10 seconds until the screen went blank did not re-enable Text-To-Speech....

I remembered reading somewhere that holding the power button for 20+ seconds will fully shut it down (rebooting?)....

I did this... Saw the Kindle logo screen when I turned it back on again, (first time seeing that screen since I got it,) and TTS -did- work again.

So, try shutting your Kindle Touch off by holding the power button for like 20-30 seconds, see if that helps when you turn it back on! :)

I just wanted to chime in and say I'm having the same issue. It stopped working after I paused, and it still isn't working after three reboots. A fix would be great....

Rebooting did not fix it for me. However, letting the battery run down all the way did.

Thanks Amadhi! Your suggestion of a total reboot of 30 sec worked on my daughter's touch tts when a quick restart did not. I appreciate your help.

The 30 second restart worked great!!! Thank you!

Whew! That worked. Thanks so much. None of the other solutions were working. Had to hold it off 20+ seconds as you suggested and then see that Kindle logo when booting it back up. Thanks again.

Thank you!!! I've had the same problem. Just fixed it after I held the restart button for 30 seconds. The "Kindle" start screen will come up and the Kindle will be rebooted.

To Amazon CS; I agree, the restart procedure solves the problem until next time; so it would be worth to get a permanent fix included in a new software release

To fix, you have to download update from and copy to your tts folder.

Thanks for this, Jean. I tried rebooting it and it worked OK to start with, then I changed from the male voice to the female one and it stopped again. I tried rebooting twice and still no joy. I tried going back a couple of pages and I'm OK again.

Amazon need to sort this out.
