I am trying to use iSyncr but my PC wont recognize my Kindle HD as a portable device in "my computer".

First step in troubleshooting is to reboot all devices. With the Fire, you make sure it is charged and the charging cable removed. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (time it). Press the power button one more time and then wait for the home screen to fully populate. This may take a few minutes.

When the pc has rebooted and the home screen fully loaded, try connecting the usb cable one more time.

After you connect your Kindle to your PC, turn on your Kindle, that should do it.

Same problem here. My PC recognizes my old 1st generation Kindle, my phone, and various other devices. Kindle shows it's charging, but PC doesn't even see a device connected -- no error, nothing. Consistent on multiple PC's.

I'm having the same problem (just got my Kindle HD this week) - however, the same computer recognizes my Fire HD when using other USB cables. The one I got from Amazon seems to only work to charge. Lame - I'm guessing this is a defective cable I got with my Kindle Fire?

I have the same problem. it recognized it once but ever since it doesn't. Quite frustrating because I can't transfer files now.

I'm having the same problem. I was able to set up and register but the next time I tried to connect my computer doesn't recognize it. It does "wake up" the Kindle. It does charge it. I tried on my other computer and it works fine. Not a bad cable. I've tried rebooting both devices. Update! Now it won't even charge it!

My pc doesn't even recognize the Kindle as a device, thus I cannot even sync any music to it. It keeps saying that it failed to install any drivers for it.

This worked for me after my PC suddenly decided not to recognise my Kindle Fire HDX.
I powered off both devices, disconnecting any cables.
I powered the PC back on.
I use Calibre to convert ebooks, so I opened Calibre.
I connected the PC and Kindle via the USB.
I then powered on the Kindle.
Bingo - Kindle was finally recognised

I tried restarting the PC, as well as the Kindle, tried with a different PC, downloaded Microsoft Media Player as advised by the Amazon Help Center...nothing!
The moment I changed the USB cable (not the original Kindle one) everything worked...

Computer will not recognize Kindle Fire HD 7 -- even though Kindle says "USB Cable Connected."
This is a new problem that started recently for no discernible reason.
I have consulted numerous forums and discussion groups and tried numerous fixes suggested therein. None worked.
Tried installing program "Kindle Fire ADB Drivers." Install failed: "Cannot Complete Device Driver Installation."
Cables not the problem.
Using Windows 8.1 on a 64 bit Lenovo.
Please advise, anyone.

Did you try a different port? Restart the computer? Reboot the Fire?

Froideterre says:
Yes, I tried those fixes. None worked.

Sent CS an email, waiting for reply. Thought there might be an established protocol for dealing with this problem. There should be. Lot of people have the same problem--Googling it produces many, many hits. Amazon is dropping the ball on this one. I'm betting that CS won't be able to solve it. They have proved repeatedly that they are fairly useless. They simply post or give the same failed solutions. Amazon's tech people should be working to solve the problem but they manifestly have not done so. I'm about to toss out my Kindle and get a tablet I can use.

Using the email option seems to be one of the longest waiting options. It's generally recommended to click on the help link & go through the options/info until you get to the Need More Help choice, and then use either Call Me or Chat for the the fastest response.
