When I turn my Kindle Fire on, a message comes up saying 'Swype has stopped working'.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

This literally just started happening to me ,I take it no one knows how to fix it ?

Dragi Raos says:
Try this:

Swipe down from home page to reveal Settings. Tap "More", then "Applications", "Installed Applications". Leave the filter as "All Applications", wait for the list to populate. Find "Swipe" (icon is a gear), tap it, wait for details to populate, tap "Clear Cache". If this does not help, repeat but this time also tap "Clear Data".

Thank you Dragi for both finding Swype and for allowing me to fix my keyboard issue. I can't tell you how many hard resets I did to clear up the issue only to have the the same problem still remain. I've tested things and they appear to be working, I'm crossing my fingers the results remain or I will be forced to do a factory reset. Thanks again.

Jo Jo Pigg says:
i'm getting the black screen of death, the airplane mode that won't cancel, and the messages about Swype stopped working, Asphalt 7 stopped working, and Player stopped working. i've tried plugging/unplugging power, holding the button for 30 seconds, and going into the applications list (which never populates--goes to black screen), all to no avail...

The Fire hasn't suffered a fall, has it?

it's been sort of getting worse for a while. it would go black screen and the reset would fix it, and so on... but now, nothing.

It's probably time to contact Customer Service.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 28, 2013 4:33:51 AM PDT
I did everything up until applications at that point the screen is black then also and won't show me anything. Do you have any suggestions forme to try from here?

Mike says:
Like Folina said, contact Kindle customer service, starting with the help link at the top of this page. Don't use email, have them call you.

Has it returned and did you do the 'Clear Cache' first and then the 'Clear Data' or visa versa? I hit the 'Clear Data' first but could not get the cache to clear.

Thanks very much, Dragi Raos:)

Gail says:
I have done both the Clear Cache and the Clear Data. No joy, still have the recurring Swype has stopped message. Customer Service basically told me since I was out of warranty I was out of luck. Pointed me to refurbed models for a discount. This smells to me of a bad update. There is nothing wrong with the hardware. I'm not inclined to get another Kindle if an update "bricks" my device.

I Can't Type On My Kindle Fire HD Anymore How Do I Make It Work

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 15, 2014 2:45:26 PM PDT
Looks like you have made a wise choice my friend. I too have chosen not to return my 'brick' and will await to see if the next update 'magically' fixes the problem. And if not I have my original Kindle Fire (although not possessing the same capabilities as the HD, it has been my ONLY saving grace). I received a email response from the help desk with no helpful suggestions other than to contact them by phone. I have no desire to sit on the phone and have someone try to convince me that my unit no longer functions for no good reason. I'll not buy another item from until this is resolved to MY satisfaction... they have my telephone number.

CatChat says:
They may have your number, but unless you give them permission to call you (clicking on the blue Help link at the top of the page, clicking the yellow "contact us", fill out questions, then choose "call me") it is against their policy to do so. Even then it's a one time, for that issue thing anyway. Communicating with customer service on the phone will get you better results almost every time.

If swype has stopped go to the aptoide app or whatever download manager you have then go to the swype app and uninstall, it will set your device back to the original swype program it should work fine after that

This works: if you 'uninstall' swype, it roll rollback to its original version. Fixed the error for my kindle fire hd 7.

Daffy thanks for that, didn't even realise apptoide had run an update. Fire HD now working.
