Um, just about ANY earbud. How much do you want to spend? I've seen some over $400!! ex. Shure SE535-V Triple High-Definition MicroDriver Earphone with Detachable Cable - Metallic Bronze

I use Apple earbuds. Nothing fancy, but they work well for me.

If you're looking for something better, the NY Times recently had an article on headphones. The article contains general info mostly, but it also suggests a few brands.

If you want cheap Rocketfish (I bought mine at Best Buy) sounds good.

Basically you'll get what you pay for both in terms of quality and reliability. Suggest spending at least $30, less than that is likely to get poorer sound quality and indeterminate life.

Skull Candy aren't bad, my kids both use them but they seems to break very easily, we must have had 6 or 8 pairs in the last couple of years.

I love the JVC HAF150B Gumy Headphone (Black). They are less than $10 and sound great for the price. And you can pick them up at Best Buy, Walmart or Target.

I found these Sony MDR-E829V Fontopia Earbuds with In-line Volume Control to be incredibly useful with my Kindle Fire. The sound is great and there is no need to go into the Kindle's settings and disrupt your video, just to adjust volume.

I can't get ear plugs to work my my kindle fire. Sound still comes out of speakers. Is there a setting for using head phones?

I haven't found any earphones that don't work, i.e., Sansa Clip earbuds, GE Walkman headphones, Sony Discman earphones, Panasonic headphones that don't seem to have a device (?), maybe someone left them here. They all sound fine - bad ones get tossed out right away. Price doesn't seem to guarantee quality.

Thanks to M. Solano for the Sony MDR-E829V lead - I'm looking forward to the inline volume control and the convenient wind-up feature - maybe I can remove the buds from my pocket without dragging everything else with it.....

Sherrie - I have noticed that if I start the sound before plugging in 'phones or 'buds, sound continues for a bit before coming only from 'phones/'buds. Removing 'phones/'buds while music is playing seems to pause the music so it has be started again (from where it paused). See if waiting a few seconds allows Fire to switch from speakers to 'phones.

This may all be different with video.

M. SOLANO says:
Thinkaboutit - make sure to put the kindle volume all the way up so you can get the most sound out of the earbuds.

You need to make sure the ear buds are properly plugged in.
