(Edit Oct 31) Before you post to this thread, please read this:

"This thread is NOT a book promotion thread for authors, or for people to post about indies. (And it's not for posting freebies either.) This thread is to post discounts and price drops that readers find for books from publishers."

Yes we complain all the time about inflated eBook prices, but if you pay attention to the prices, Amazon frequently discounts / price drops many books by as much as 90% all the time (for a limited period of course). I've collected many of these ebook links in some posts on my blog, and almost all of them are from the $0.89 to $2.99 range. (I was going to add this to the 2.00 thread, but I noticed that they were populated by just authors advertising their books.)

There's more discounted books everyday, the problem really is just keeping up with them before the prices revert to normal. If you find any good books that are discounted, add them here! Or check out the post link above to check out the other books.

For example: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote is 74% OFF at only $3.96 now.
Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer is 65% OFF at $4.84 now. I grew up reading her charming romances.
Forbidden Falls by Robyn Carr is 64% OFF at $2.84. I like Robyn Carr's romances.

I'd been tracking this one, happy to see the price has dropped:
Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey at 79% OFF at $2.99.
It's about a girl vigilante who's the child of a "Wolf-Man" - "one of a group of men genetically-manipulated and used by the US government as a weapon." It was $9.99 last time I checked.

I've been looking at Brandon Sanderson's other books since he got on my radar co-writing Robert Jordan's The Gathering Storm. His fantasy novel Warbreaker is now $2.99 (63% OFF) - it was $15.37 when I started tracking it.

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie starring a curvy heroine also dropped the price from $7.99 to $2.99 (63% OFF).

RandomizeME ... thanks for the information. I am really fond of Robyn Carr and will have to take advantage of "Forbidden Falls" for only $2.64.

I'd also recommending using KindleIQ.com. They'll send you an e-mail when a title you specify drops, and you can see recent drops there (that other people requested) as well.

Pretty effortless way to keep track...

I looked up all the titles I had bought for bargain prices this last year, but all of them have gone back up to normal prices since then. So don't have any books to add. This does underline though that if a book you've been interested in goes on sale like this to take advantage and buy it, even if it's a book you don't plan to read for quite a while. It's worth it to get the savings!

I've bought 10 books this last year at radically reduced prices. It's all a matter of timing in being able to take advantage of it, but it does really support the value of owning a Kindle. It's not unusual to find remainder hardcovers for cheap prices, but it's pretty rare to find a paperback on sale for dirt cheap (outside of used bookstores anyway)!

I've been wanting to buy this book for a while now, but was holding out since I thought that $24.95 was too much to pay - glad to see it's $1.50 today!

Crossing Hitler : The Man Who Put the Nazis on the Witness Stand by Benjamin Carter Hett

Also, The Forger: An Extraordinary Story of Survival in Wartime Berlin by Cioma Schönhaus is discounted to $1.43 (previously $9.99). It's the memoir of a man who was a graphic artist in Nazi Germany, and who risked his life "forging documents for people fleeing the Reich."

What a great bunch of YA books. I'm always on the lookout for good quality young adult fiction to introduce my classes to (and friends with kids to Kindle ;-) Unfortunately not one was available for Australian readers. Curses!

Thanks for this post! I grabbed What the Dickens and while I was at it, Leaping Beauty too. I love Gregory Maguire! Very excited that the Hitchhiker's Guide books in one volume will be out in a couple days...I had done a search for Douglas Adams to start buying the series for my Kindle (who's name is Trillian, fancy that!) and found it was going to be released with all five books for $9.99 and of course pre-ordered! YAY!

Anyone into history? I just got this for my dad - the Roosevelt memoir Too Close to the Sun by Curtis Roosevelt which is just $1.85 (the digital list price was $29.95). That's 90% savings.

Info on the book (Amazon):
"Curtis Roosevelt was three when he and his sister, Eleanor, arrived at the White House soon after their grandfather's inauguration. The country's "First Grandchildren," a pint-sized double act, they were known to the media as "Sistie and Buzzie." In this rich memoir, Roosevelt brings us into "the goldfish bowl," as his family called it - that glare of public scrutiny to which all presidential households must submit. He recounts his misadventures as a hapless kid in an unforgivably formal setting and describes his role as a tiny planet circling the dual suns of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Blending self-abasement, humor, awe and affection, Too Close to the Sun is an intimate portrait of two of the most influential and inspirational figures in modern American history-and a thoughtful exploration of the emotional impact of growing up in their irresistible aura."

@Dianne,

This is the link for KindleIQ -> http://www.kindleiq.com/ (not sure how long they can keep the name though, I know that Amazon has been sending out notices to sites to not use "Kindle" as part of their site names).

RandomizeME, thanks for starting this. I was just thinking about a thread that talked about bargains rather than a specific price, and voila, here it is. I bought the "Tooth Fairy" book the other day. What a steal.
The other bargain I just got was Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. It is now $5.99. It has been $9.99 for the longest time.
Also, Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth is $6.99. That's a lot of book for the money. :)

One more bargain that has been on my wishlist and just dropped in price is Max Brooks' World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. It is now $6.36. Down from $9.99. And darnit. I also noticed that The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead is down to $5.69. I just paid $9.99 for that about 2 weeks ago. I've had the physical book forever, but I figured I really needed a portable copy. You never know. ;)

@Pagan,

Thanks for adding bargains! I was feeling a little lonely. I love Max Brook's World War Z, and I was so happy when I heard it got optioned for a movie by Brad Pitt. Unfortunately, there's been no news since then...

P.S. This isn't really a bargain, but just in case there are scholars here or students who might be interested, the British Library has put up digitized copies of ancient manuscripts from their library. Great for students I think. Link: http://www.bl.uk/manuscripts/

Hmmm...

I gave a paper copy of the Zombie Survival Guide to my best friend a couple years ago. I've told her that by giving it to her she's now responsible for our survival come the zombie apocalypse. (We've already determined that neither of us is living in a good place to defend against zombie attack, alas.) But maybe I really should get my own Kindle copy now...
