Kindle Fire version 6.3.1

Did you have a question?

I have purchased a refurbished Kindle fire (6.3.1) form an online store in Trade Me (A New Zealand online Auction) which was delivered to me with full 1 year warranty only to find that many of the functions of the Kindle do not work in New Zealand. This was hugely disappointing after my complete satisfaction with my earlier Kindle Keyboard (purchased from Amazon). Why on earth should this occur? Why cannot this weakness be overcome? If it can be overcome, when will this happen? I, like many of my New Zealand friends, would like to purchase the Kindle Fire HD but clearly, knowing what I know now, this would be crazy. From what I can find out, no other Tablet has this problem. Can anyone enlighten me why Amazon should allow this situation to exist? Should I forget about Kindl;es in the future? Walter

Walter - None of the Kindle Fire models are available (from Amazon) to New Zealand for exactly this reason. Amazon cannot legally sell you content due to international copyrights and digital media licenses. Believe me, they would love to be able to sell you more, and they are working to expand the regions that they can sell content to, but for now, the Kindle Fire is available to only a few countries.

Thank you Laura. I think I can now get my head around the problem. I wonder could you enlighten me as to why genuine but refurbished Kindle Fire tablets are sold on our main local online auction site, in sealed Amazon Kindle Fire packages with apparently genuine Amazon Kindle warranties. There is nothing in the description given these tablets to alert local people to their limitations. When I complained of this to the proprietors of the online shop they sent me details of a method of getting around the problem, which, I now believe, while partially successful was probably was illegal.
I have since reset the tablet to factory settings. It is brilliant for books, which happily is my major use anyway, but just frustrating, when one can see it's potential. Walter

Yes I have a small camera like circle on the top corner of my kindle fire....I'm not sure what kind of kindsl I have its a 6.3.1 if that means anything! I was also wanting to know if it does indeed have a camera and if so how do I use it??? Thank you... Leslie

R. D. Clark says:
Leslie, you have the original Fire. That little circle is a light sensor which, iirc, was disabled because it was causing problems with battery consumption. In any case, it's not a camera; there is no camera on the original Fire, nor any way to connect one. Sorry.

Walter, a few of the Kindle Pros are in Australia and New Zealand and own assorted models of the Fire. As you have already found out, buying books is not an issue. But you can buy other content sideloaded from sites other than Amazon.

It's not illegal as far as I know. Google for instructions on how to do it; maybe one of the Pros from your area will post more information than I have, seeing how I live in Ohio, USA, with no experience down under.
