Not that I know of. You are stuck with the lock screen pics and the carousel. I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 which I use for video, Prime and music...great speakers but I sprung for that $145 Nook HD +, bought the Android for Nook dual boot SD card for $20 bucks and now have an Android Tablet with Live wallpaper, a custom launcher and full access to Google Play. Quite the bargain. I use both tablets and really like them both but Amazon locks down their forked version of Android. That may change with the new models coming out but I'm not hopeful.

We will see.

There is no way to change the sleep screen images. You either get the default images from Amazon or the ads. There is no way to customize them.

I took a similar route but with my Kindle Fire 7" (generation 1). I bought ($20) the Kindle version from the N2Aos (note this is not on an SD card) and now that KF is happily running android 4.2.2. I love playing with different backgrounds.

I wouldn't recommend this approach to the original poster as she still has a device under warranty, and what you are suggesting is against the Amazon Terms of Service if she wishes to keep her warranty intact (unless, of course, you are willing to assume the liability for her Kindle...)

It is a Micro SD Card which has the root on it. If I remove this card and put in a blank card or leave the slot empty, it becomes an unsullied, standard, warranty intact Nook HD +. That is the advantage of a card slot.

I see...the 7'' above rooted his Fire. They are cheap enough now he could always buy another unrooted. I went the Nook SD card route. No big deal either way. He just won't get Amazon Prime.

She (the OP) has a Kindle which has no SD card slot, (not a Nook).

The post I was making reference to was the one from ciscos2 suggesting the purchase of the Kindle version of N2Aos which is NOT on an SD card to modify the Amazon OS.
