I own 2 kindles. One I gave to my dad and I have the other. Is there a way I can manage my kindle to not show the books I have bought for him?

If both Kindles are registered to the same Amazon account, they share a single Kindle library. You can each download whichever books you wish to your respective Kindles, but all of the books will be available to download from the Cloud or Archived Items list on each device.

If you don't want to share content with your dad, you'll need separate accounts. You can de-register his Kindle from your account, and he can then register it to his own account, but his books will stay in your account. Content is not transferable.

If the Kindle you gave your dad is an e-reader (as opposed to a Fire), all books that are on the reader at the time you deregister it will stay on the reader until manually deleted. He just would not be able to download them again as they would not be in his account.

My (adult) daughter and I share similar reading tastes, so she still has her iPhone Kindle app registered to my Amazon account, so she can access all my books. But I did start her with her own Amazon account back when I got her her actual Kindle.

I have my K4PC registered to HER account, so I can access her books if I want to. But our physical Kindles are on separate accounts. It works well for us.
