Does anyone else with an HDX have an issue with it restarting by itself while you are reading, and having to find where you were again? Keep having this issue, and even a new one I got does it. Wondering if they all do?

It doesn't really matter whether others have this issue. If it were me, I'd try a reboot by holding the power button for 30 seconds. If that doesnt fix it, then I'd troubleshoot with Kindle customer service. Start with the help link at the top of the page, and then the contact us button on the right side of the next page.

Have done all that. That's why I'm on like my third one. Customer service sends me new one and I send the other one back. Every one I've had does it.

Nancy, there must be a common denominator. Are you using a Smart Cover?

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 3, 2014 1:50:09 PM PDT
Meya's right. Take it out of the automagical on/off cover and see if that solves the problem. I had to return one cover because it kept turning my device OFF no matter what I did.

You might need to choose a different cover.

CatChat says:
if it is not in a case like mentioned above, how are you holding it? the power buttons can be touchy and on one of my fires I had to train myself not to hold it with my hand near the button as a slight brush of the button would turn it off. others have mentioned needing to do that as well.

I can verify for you that they don't all do this. You didn't say which HDX you have.....I have the 7" and I read books, watch movies, answer email and play games for hours each day. My Fire never restarts itself. Never.

[hand up] I bump the damn thing off even IN the cover. Just the way it rests on my handbone, sometimes.

What is that bone? The index finger bone? You know. The "L" of the ... whatever.

Seriously, though. The cover has the cutout for the volume & power buttons. I bump it ALL THE TIME when I'm switching hands, or changing positions.

And of course, if you've already just done that, and shift your hand (or whatever it's rested against, like an armrest) again, it pops back awake again.

It doesn't go to sleep, but turns completely off and restarts immediately. I called, and the rep told me there have been problems with the original origami case, so he put money on my account to order a different one. Will try that first.

Dollars to doughnuts, that's your culprit right there.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 3, 2014 2:32:24 PM PDT
Am thinking that's the issue. Wondering what case you guys have who don't have the issue?

I use a Poetic case for mine, which has worked rather well.

I had one of the original Origami covers when the HDX was first released which had the same persistent issue. They had me send both my Origami cover and my HDX to their Lab126 (where all the Amazon magic occurs) in order to diagnose the problem (certain Origami covers had poor magnet placement).

There are many good quality, inexpensive covers for the HDX. I can post a link to the one I purchased, if you are interested.

Edited due to auto correct...

I've got a release-day HDX 7 and a release-day purple origami case with no issues. Take yours out of the case and use it naked for a day.

The poetic is the one I just ordered. I bet it's the fault of that original origami case

I had bought one for my 7" HDX because it was the most like the CaseCrown cover on my HD. With the 2012 HD, the plug is on the long edge, and that cover is in two pieces, so you can rotate the device so it can be plugged in when you have it propped to watch a video. (That model has a stoopid design)

I bought my husband the 8.9" HD that was offered refurbished a few months ago, so I got him that same cover. He likes the loop that holds a stylus, and again, that two part design is nice for watching video with it plugged in.

I like the soft somewhat gushy feel of the cover too.

I just love them for all the same reasons. although I will admit I mainly got it the first time because my family nickname is rackyroo and that often gets shortened to roo. so I now have personalized cases for my kindles with my "name" etched in the corner.

Ok, been using new case as the customer svc rep said. Kindle restarted itself last evening, and then twice in a half hour tonight! This is driving me nuts!

Hi Nancy I have the same problem and I am on my third Kindle Fire HDX 7
in the middle of reading it reboots and returns to the page I first open could be 10 pages back. It was in an Origami case which is magnetic where most only get the sleep mode I get reboot, it is switched to never put in sleep mode, after using the MayDay they advised in taking out of the case when using it to see if the problem is the case. There are a lot of people out there with this shuting down / sleep mode problem had I known I doubt if I would have purchased one even if Amazon keep replacing it it is the inconvenience of having to reload everything.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 10, 2014 12:25:32 PM PDT
Yes, I'm on my third one also. I changed cases, but it still does it. Are you saying yours reboots after being put in sleep mode, like when you first open it? Mine doesn't do that, but reboots while I am reading. Twice in a half hour last night. I also had them check whether this one was brand new, and it was. I do love the machine though. Am trying it today without the case, naked, to see if it does it. Rep. supposed to call me back tomorrow.

Posted on Jun 10, 2014 2:05:22 PM PDT
Well, it just rebooted naked, without the case. So it has to be the unit. Not the case.
