My settings are for voice guide off but the voice keeps chatting

R. Grace says:
If it's off in the settings, try a complete restart. Hold the power switch for a count of 30, until the screen goes blank. It should then go through the loading boy-under-tree screen.

Try a soft reboot using the menu option to do that. Go to Menu --> Settings --> Menu --> Restart.

Call Amazon CS and ask them about it:
Inside the United States: 1-866-321-8851
Outside the United States: 1-206-266-0927

Or, they will call you back if you leave your info at:

Drora: I think there's a good chance that in settings it is actually giving you an action to perform, not telling you the current setting:
Voice Guide ....... turn off

By clicking on that option it will turn off, and the wording for the option will change to 'turn on'.

To turn off voice guide in Kindle Fire, use the pull down menu. Go to MORE, ACCESSIBILITY AND DE-SELECT voice guide.

I was ready to break my 2 day old Kindle Fire HD with a hammer.
With the awesome tech support person do the following:

Using two fingers and swipe from top to bottom like you did when you had to unlock the Kindle. Double tap on the + button and turn off the voice command mode and double tap mode if it's turned on
