I apologize that there is already a thread for the update, but this part seems like it deserves its own thread.

After you update your Kindle for PC, you can highlight a section in a book, copy it, paste it somewhere else (I used Notepad)....and it gives you the citation information!

I have a post which should be on my Amazon Author Central page and be there for a few days.

This is the earlier thread Joan started:

Darned if I can get it to work, Bufo. If I highlight some text, I get the dark-grey menu above it, as usual. I presume you're using Ctrl+C to copy? I'm not getting anything new on the clipboard at all, and I've tried with over half-a-dozen books from Amazon and other sellers. Is there some other trick to it?

Les, did you update your K4PC first? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Yes - to 1.6.0 (32771). Is there a newer one?

Les Bell says:
Curious - I see the "Using Kindle for PC" page [1] shows that menu having four major options: "Highlight", "Add Note", "Copy" and "Morev". However, I get "Search" instead of "Copy" - which is pretty useless since if you've got a lot of text highlighted, the only possible match will be that location.

Les, I'm clicking a button that says Copy on that menu...you can see a picture of it in the post on my Amazon Author Central page.

I have only tried it on a public domain title so far...but I assume the per-title clipping limit applies on books with DRM (Digital Rights Management). I'll experiment with it more later.

Update: I just tried it with a copyrighted book...no problem.

Same here, Les. I went through 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 (with "crashing on some Bean .prcs" problem), 1.7 and 1.8, but they all still have "Search" where, apparently, "Copy" should be. Ctrl-C doesn't do anything. If I click "Search", then I can copy the text from the search box that appears (populated with selected text), but, if copied, it does not include citation.

I tried this with DRM-ed, third-party and my own books - no difference.

Any ideas, people?

Here is what I just did with my Kindle Fire:

1. I downloaded Kindle for PC to my laptop

2. I opened a book on the Fire, and Highlighted some text

3. I synched the Fire and Kindle PC

4. I opened the same book on Kindle PC, and the Highlight showed me the text in which I had interes

5. I selected the text with the mouse, and a right click offered me a Copy option so I clicked

6. I opened a new Evernote, right click offered a Paste option, I clicked and lo and behold the text from my book on Kindle fire appeared in the note.

Ouch!

Is there any way to turn off the automatic citation?

Is there way to turn it on :o)

I still haven't figured out how to copy a highlight. Do other non-American have that feature (Les and I are both Internationals)?

I remember I talked to CS and was told it only worked in the US. Darned if I know why.

I'm currently trying to get Amazon to fix another bug in K4PC - the inability to correctly open kindle:// links, which are used on the http://kindle.amazon.com site. See

Yes, same here. I already forgot that this doesn't work...

Edit: I "semi-works" in exactly the same way you described in that comment - so it doesn't seem to be the result of your particular environment...

Edit: just for the record, it works for me now - I don't remember the version of K4PC where it started working, probably 1.8 or so.

I am making flash cards on Study Blue and the automatic citation is really messing up my ability to do so... does anyone know if it is possible to turn this function off?

Does anyone know if it works for Kindle for Mac?

Scott, Did you ever find a way to turn off the auto citation? Its very time consuming to delete citation when taking notes.

Curious if anyone ever figured out how to turn them off. I'm using my e-textbook to make Anki flashcards, and it's sort of annoying to have to delete the citation every time. (Though still less time consuming than using a paper-based book, so I'm still happy.)

I chatted with Amazon about this a few days ago. The rep I spoke with said that the automatic citations can't be turned off, and are requested by the publisher. I copy what I highlighted in my Kindle text and paste it into Word (Kindle for Win7 crashes on me if I breathe on it wrong), and end up with five pages of citations for the same book.

I am attempting to make a study guide with several definitions and have to reformat each one that I copy and paste. It's faster for me to type them out which is time consuming because I have about 6 chapters to cover. Does anyone know of another place to get e-books that will give me the option to turn off any auto referencing? If so, I will be purchasing from them next time.

If this was a publisher request as Erin has stated then it's a bad move.

Curt, you may try choosing More->Google instead of Copy. It will google the highlighted text without any reference, you may then copy it from the search field. I know, it is still a lot of actions for a mere copy/paste, but that's what I am doing when I need to copy from e-books.

Dragi Raos says:
Curt, it is much easier to remove a citation than to add it if you need it, don't yo think?

I suggest that you do the following: highlight the passages you want to copy, then sync the book. Go to http://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights and copy highlights from there.

If I had lots of work of this kind, I would write a script to "scrape" highlights from my kindle web page.

I just bought my first book for Kindle for PC.
I like it but the auto citation is very annoying!
I'm getting ready for my exam so I take a lot of notes and removing references is very time consuming.
