jillianm1981 - Try rebooting it. If that doesn't resolve your issue, contact customer support.

TO REBOOT YOUR KINDLE FIRE:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for a full 30 seconds (count them).
Press the power button again to turn it back on.
The "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

TO CONTACT KINDLE CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Click on this link and fill in the information. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html
You may have to sign in. I would use the PHONE or CHAT options.
Do NOT use e-Mail.
CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

I am having much the same problem, but not quite. I play scrabble on my Kindle Fire. For the past two months, the internet connection drops and reboots several times a minute. I can't keep a game going. Some days I'm constantly loosing connection and it appears to be rebooting, but never comes to full functionality. How to correct this?

What Pineapple says: try the reboot; if that doesn't fix it, then contact Kindle customer service.

My Kindle Fire is about a year or two old, I was using it this morning and it was fully charged, I was even able to use an app and listen to music, it was fine. Suddenly my scree froze and went blank, but my music was still playing. I thought it had just frozen, so I tried to turn it back on. Nothing. The song I was currently listening to stopped and nothing new came on. I've tried rebooting it, nothing. The green power light won't even come on. I was wondering what could I do to try and fix this without calling customer support (I have phone induced anxieties) and without taking it somewhere to get fixed (I don't have any extra money, the kindle itself was a gift)

@M.Reynolds-Oosting

Sometimes, the Kindle times out, and tries to turn off (like when you are reading and you leave it alone). Try plugging it in and making sure it is charged, then unplug it and push the button in and hold it for 30 seconds (use your watch) or count one-Mississippi one, one Mississippi two, etc until you get to thirty. Release the button, and then press it once more and wait.

This JUST happened to me and your advice worked perfectly. Thank you. Unfortunately, I accidentally pressed 'no' for the post being helpful, which is clearly not the case.

Thank you!!

Call Amazon's Customer Service for help. "Help" link at the top/bottom of every Amazon page, "Need More Help?" and "Contact Us" on the next page that appears. Then put the information they ask for about why you want assistance, enter your phone number, and a CS rep from Amazon will call you within minutes.
