Do I have to buy the "Amazon Kindle PowerFast" in order to charge the Kindle Fire?

ghstbstr - No, it's not included. I would buy it (if you do that when you purchase your Fire it's only $9.99 as opposed to $19.99 later) because charging it using the provided USB cable will take 13 hours.

I have been using my previous Kindle 3 usb type chargers, and my phone USB charger on the previous fire. If you have one of those your golden also. Can't imagine hooking up one to a PC for 13hrs!

Power adapters from other Kindles should work, albeit slowly. The Apple iPad power adaptor is a 10 W model and should also work. Of course, not having a Fire HD yet, I can only say should, not definitely does.

Anyone know how fast the "powerfast" adapter charges?

It will charge a Kindle hd in less than 4 hours

just curious. Does anyone know if the new "powerfast" adaptor charges "faster" than the old Fire power adaptor? Or are the same, just now it is sold separately with a different name?

why isn't the adapter included??

Bixillarla says:
It is not included because not everyone needs one. They have other devices with chargers that will work on the Fire. Some people have a drawer full of extra cords and chargers from buying devices.

Amazon decided to eliminate the AC Adapter in Kindles as most people already had at least one from a previous unit or could charge it via the USB with their computer and did not need the AC adapter.

Why waste money sending out a AC Adapter in every Kindle so it can gather dust in a drawer somewhere?
