I have a kindle 2nd generation (the white one with a keyboard). Today I noticed that when I click to turn on wifi the wifi icon comes on for about a second and then goes off. Why? Any thought? The battery was completely dead and it is charging so perhaps that is the issue and if I wait for the battery to charge it will work? Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks.

The second generation Kindle does not use WiFi, but a 3g cellular connection.

If your Kindle battery was completely dead, you will want to allow it to first completely and fully recharge before attempting to connect again. (Just for future reference, this is really hard on the type of battery used in the Kindle, so you should never allow it to fully discharge.)

Once it has completely recharged, perform a hard reboot on it by sliding and holding the power button for a full 30 seconds (count them), and then set the Kindle down for about 5 minutes until it has completely rebooted and repopulated.

At that point, try to turn the wireless back on and perform a sync.

the white one doesn't have wifi - it uses 3G and it may be a problem with either the kindle or the 3G signal in your area

try a reboot (over 50% battery charge, unplugged, hold power on for a full 30 seconds)

I'm pretty sure The Kindle 2 is not wifi only Whispernet. I guess I should say my Kindle 2 is not Wifi. I gave my Kindle 2 to a friend because I was having to recharge it more often. It is still working for her. Okay I admit I wanted a new one. lol

That is what CBRetriever and I both already explained to the original poster.

If you EVER had use of Wifi, it's NOT a Kindle 2.

Just like the Original Kindle (2007?) and the DX, all the K2s used the cellular network--Sprint when they were US only, AT&T when new ones went worldwide.
