No, videos on youtube do not play well on the Kindle Fire. Very laggy.... when I play a video I'm enjoying it then (pause) buttering... love the device....but this has got to stop, please fix Amazon.

They play fine, I have had no problem especially if you side load the youtube app. If you find it buttering (buffering) then I would look at what package you have with your ISP.

They play great on mine.

Well, there's your problem - the "buttering" message indicates you're playing the stream meant for "Toast", not "Fire".

Blake Watson says:
OK, but how? When I go to YouTube it tells me "an error occurred while trying to play your video". Updated OS. There's an app to play playlists but that's not the same thing.

The Fire is great--I just can't get it to play youtube videos. I guess if nobody has any info on it, I'll hit Amazon support up.

YouTube video works great on the Fire, but you need a good wifi connection. You can visit a speed test site like speedtest.net to determine actual connection speed, which usually is lower than rated speed and drops as you get further from the gateway.

If speed isn't good, you'll get buffering. This can be fixed by upgrading your Internet service and installing a range extender.

Youtube plays extremely well in mobile browser mode, I just wish it supported youtube playlist (Amazon, please add it). Playing Youtube in desktop browser mode allows you play youtube playlist, however the playlist layout is buggy and laggs a bit with touch inputs. Videos on the other had load fast and don't buffer, assuming you have a good wifi connection. Another downside is that Youtube videos do not continue to play when another tab opens or when the devices screen shuts off. I hope Amazon releases a fix in future updates as small fixes like these often improve the appeal of the product.

Thanks much, Albedo, for your informative post. I was considering Fire, but my Youtube playlists are an absolute deal-breaker for me. I can't understand why so many youtube apps on AV equipment don't include playlists. WDTV is the only one I'm aware of, but of course that's an all together different sort of product. How else do people organize all the videos they want to see? Put everything into favorites? One's interests would have to be awfully limited. Search for the same thing over and over?
