Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation--Problems with Kindle store on device

I own a Kindle Paperwhite 1st generation. I already have the newest update, since approximately March 7. Today all of a sudden when I went on wi-fi to the Kindle Store, it was almost blank. It was totally changed. It had the words browse, and recommended each in a different section, then at the bottom the standard scroll of 100 recommended for you books. Anyone else having that problem?

p.s. I can't go anywhere on the store page. THere is still a search bar at the very top, and the recommended for you scroll at the very bottom. But everything else is gone.

I'll try a reboot. Battery power is nearly 100%. It was charging overnight. It also seems that I need to reboot/restart a lot after the update, but that's a topic for another thread. Thanks.

I charged the battery to top it off at 100%, did a full 30 second reboot, reconnected it to wi-fi, and still the same problem...no kindle store. Here is an approximation of what the screen looks like. Assume the regular task bars at the top, then it says,

Browse

Featured

(big open space)

________________________
Recommended for you (regular scroll of featured book covers with an option to see all

It shows Browse and some categories. Then Featured and some categories such as Daily Deals, Monthly Deals and Kindle First.

Then it shows Recommendations with book covers.

on a side note... JustPeachy, try going to Best Sellers, then click on refine, choose free books, and you'll see the listing of the top 100 free books. This changes throughout the day.

...I find the Kindle store on my device sometimes a lot more efficient than the one on my PC. If you type in the search bar, kindle free books, and then hit refine, you can choose by subcategory, then by customer rating. I have found many ways to search for free and discounted books on the device Kindle store. Maybe that is why my total is well over a 1000 books. Yes nearly 99% of that was in the cloud before the update. Now with the update, I ended up deleting all the old collections, making new ones, and sorting my nearly 1500 books into a collection. Yes it took a long time. But I also created a dump collection for books that I no longer wanted at all. I'm slowly going through that and deleting them on my manage my kindle section on the pc. Everyday I check the Kindle store on my device, that is why I find it so disconcerting that it is not working today.

Still nothing. Problem isn't fixed. I better try contacting Amazon kindle help.

Whew, Called Amazon kindle support, and as I was talking to them the problem fixed itself. The support specialist was able to tell me that this morning I was receiving some minor updates and it probably was in the middle of that when I was trying to access the store. Updates are completed and the store is now accessible. :) Yeah. Thanks for listening/reading. Have a great day.

Just Peachy: I am glad it is resolved as well. When I first got the 5.4.4 update, there was a letter on my Kindle from the Kindle support team telling me that my device had been updated, some new features, and to look for a new users' guide. At the end it did say to keep the device connected to wi-fi for further updates. Now, I don't continuously keep it connected because I read a lot, and that drains the battery with the wifi on. From the context of the letter I had been expecting some minor updates to fix any quirks as people start using the new configured Paperwhite. After all this was a major update. I'm glad that they do keep updating. However, the specialist did say that they were minor enough not to change the firmware update version number. I do hear you, about prior notification issues. I imagine that since this was a roll out, any minor updates will also be a roll out depending upon the issues. Oh well, I do hear you and I hope your PW is working fine.
