I was sitting on my bed a while ago today and leaned back and through my elbow I put my full weight on my Kindle Keyboard screen. There was a horrifying crack and the only visible evidence of damage was at the top where the plastic had come apart. I clicked it back together and tried to turn it on. It has a bunch of lines going up and across the screen, with some going diagonal and meeting where my elbow must've cracked something below the screen. My Kindle is hopelessly dead now. Do you think Amazon will replace it for me? I am still within the year-long warranty.

R. D. Clark says:
All you can do is ask. Unless you purchased a third-party warranty that specifically covers accidental damage, Amazon is not obligated to do anything. The standard warranty covers manufacturing defects, not elbows.

But you never know; CS reps seem to have a lot of latitude about things like this. If you're self-deprecating and nice, you may get lucky.

Nooooo! That's a terrible tragedy!

Yes, do contact Kindle support. They've been known to do nice things, but instead of replacing yours, they'll more likely offer you another one at a greatly reduced price. Good luck!

R.D. Clark: I'm going to call about it after Christmas but I just wanted some second opinions because I'm freaking out. This is actually my third Kindle Keyboard; the first two were messed up. I hope so. I've read a lot of stories about people getting Kindles replaced because of their clumsiness.

Arual: Yes, it is. :( How much of a reduced price?

Owwww! I live in fear of doing that. I obsess about putting my kindle on my pillow rather than on the bed covers, where I'm more likely to see it and not lean on it by accident. But I still worry about the possibility...

I hope Amazon is nice to you.

The Bookworm: I am usually very wary of my electronics and, like you! I always put my electronics on my pillows. I just let my guard down. That's when it always happens, though. The one time you forget, THAT is the time that it happens. :(

Yep :-( It's why I still live in fear.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Noooooo, the stuff nightmares are made of!!!!! I'm so protective of my Kindle I start to say something and my son says, "I know, I know, you're Kindle is..."

I always, always tuck mine in it's hard cover in the center of the bed, at my knees, (just if I'm readjusting or something) to try to avoid this. (If I get up it goes to the dresser) I live in fear.

Good luck, hope Amazon works something out for you.

I agree with Elf Keeper it is what nightmares are made of. I never take mine out of the case and in fact I have a special bag that only my kindle is put in. My family calls the kindle my baby. I just smile at them! :)

jp7395: I hope it all works out soon. Good luck!

I cracked the screen on mine and they sent me a new one right out. I immediately bought a 3 year adh plan for it. I bought another one today for only 32.00 with a promo code and their special no receipt required gift email for my daughters fire.

My first kindle died right after the warranty expired. I got a replacement for, I think it was, $80 or so. I had it for a month when I accidently stepped on it. Called amazon back and since the warranty doesn't cover accidents, they offered me the same deal. I declined saying saying I just couldn't buy another one especially since the touch had come out. They actually said that since I was such a good customer, they were going to send me a new one free of charge. Try this and be extra careful with the next one. I'm sure that will only work once.

Amazon may give you a deal, but also check with your homeowner's insurance policy. Sorry for your loss :-(
