I got the Kindle Fire for Chirstmas from my mother ( I'm thirteen) and I woke up yesterday and there was a big scratch across the screen. I have no clue how it got there and now my kindle fire won't unlock, all I can do is turn it on and off( I can touch the shut down button and it works) has this happened to anyone??? if so what can i do?

Jazzy_Jeff says:
You will need to have your parents call Kindle Customer Service. There is a one year warranty on the Fire. Just click on the Help link at the top of this page and then over on the right click Contact Us.

I tur o my kindle fie an when I try to slide theunlock bar nothig happens, wh is the touch screen on my kindle broken?!? Ijust got my kindle about 2 months ago!!!1

Marudex, first do a hard reset. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (time it). The press the power button once to turn the Fire back on. Do not touch the Fire until you see the home screen again.

If this does not fix the issue, then contact Kindle support by clicking on help at the top of this page and then the contact us button on the next page. I use the option to have Kindle call me. They call within 1 minute.

had my kindle fire for about a year and the touch screen started going funny the other day. It would take several swipes to get it to go past the start-up screen. When I finally got to my book, touching the screen would result in other areas of the screen being hilighted. In panarama view, touching the edge of the screen would be like touching the middle where the menus top and bottom would appear rather than turning the page like it should. I can't highlight words to call up the dictionary any more either. Doing the hard reset didn't help.

If you are seeing the "lock screen", touch your finger to the lock icon and drag it to the left to open the device and access the home screen.

Heather: Adobe stopped supporting Flash on all Android devcies, not just the Fires, last August. Read on.

The Experimental Streaming Viewer allows you to view some Flash videos on the web using Silk.

Go to the Web tab > Menu > Settings > Accelerated page loading > turn on.

This will turn on two other settings:
- Enable Flash Forward
- Prompt for experimental streaming viewer

Complete information is here, including how to use the viewer:

You need to have the latest software update to use this:

If that doesn't give you the desired results:

To install Flash: (You have to have a Flash compatible browser in order to install Flash. You can't install it under Silk.)

Do the following on the Fire / Fire HD itself:

Swipe down from the top > More > Device > Allow Installation of Applications.

*Install ES File Explorer: ES File Explorer

Download and install the Dolphin HD and Flash Player apk files from these links:

Dolphin HD:

Once both files are downloaded to your Fire, open ES File Explorer and look in the "Downloads" folder. You should see both files there.

Install Dolphin HD *first* by tapping on the icon. Then Install Flash by tapping on the icon.

When you launch the Dolphin browser, go into the settings and make sure "User Agent" is set to "Desktop."

To open the Google Drive link from your Fire (this works best if you're using a stylus):
- Press on the first part of the link.
- Two brackets will appear.
- Move the right bracket to the very end of the link. Make sure you get all of it highlighted.
- Then select Copy from the popup box.
- Click on the + in the upper right of web page you're on to open a new tab.
- Tap in the URL field and an option to Paste will appear. Tap that.
- The Google Drive link will open up.
- Tap the file you want to download.

Thanks to Laura and Pineapple for these instructions.

One day I was using my kindle touch (one with an e-ink screen I'm not sure what the model is) browser and it froze for a little while so I turned it off and on to see if that would unfreeze it and it did.It did this a second time so I tried turning it off again but when I turned it on the screen was unresponsive.I've tried holding the power button down till the screen goes blank(force turned off) but it is still unresponsive with the "Application Error" box on the screen. What should I do?

I'VE HAD IT BEFORE I KNOW WHAT TO DO try to unlock it with two fingers. If that works, from the home screen, swipe down the top menu with two fingers and click on the more button then accessibility and make sure that all features are off. Customer service works too.

I seem to have same problem, first of all Kindle would not let me turn off by shut off in the power off window, so did as suggested and pressed the button for 30 seconds, the Kindle came back on and now it seems it wont let me unlock the kindle with the icon showing closed, I have slid the screen along as usual to start but its doing anything.
Its on now showing adverts still wont let me slide along to unlock and then just keeps going off.

Any ideas only had the Kindle fire hd since xmas

Your comment apparently has corrected the same problem for me when I just tried it. Amazon "help" didn't offer that at all...only to swipe the lock with 2 fingers which enabled me to unlock the Kindle. But, for the last 2 wks. it's continued to be a pain in the butt to navigate through the sites, including reading my book. Thanks for the good advice!
