I have a new Kindle Fire HD 8.9. It sends emails okay but will not receive them. I set it using the same data as my computer and my iPhone and it worked for a bit then quit. I've gone over the settings again and again and can't find my mistake. Manually getting the mail brings up "getting mail" with no error messages but no mail.

What could I be missing?

having the same issue here.

I also have the same issue...after spending three hours with Amazon support and my server (network Solutions) just today, I still can't receive emails. I called Amazon, again, and found out that with the new 8.9" fire, it goes thru the AT&T network. I have a kindle fire, first generation, and have no problem with emails. The second person I spoke with told me that my previous fire uses multiple servers. I'm returning my new 8.9" hd...if they ever fix this problem, I'll re-order it. When I called to return it, they sent me a pre-paid shipping label via email.

I have the 7" HD Same issue, although today I got it to work a couple of times, then it quite receiving again. I too had the first gen and had no issues at all. I still can send with no issue and I pretty much use my phone for emails anyway. Hopefully there will be a fix for this soon though.

I didn't want to take a chance on them not fixing it and then that would leave me stuck and unable to get my full refund (30 days). I use my phone, also, but there are times I would want to use the tablet. For what we all paid for the device, it should work!

Folks,

This is an oft repeated complaint (not just with the 8.9" model) and it does appear to be related to the email servers a user happens to be using. i.e. Verizon, for example, has many email servers some of which may be configured in a way that causes the problem but you cannot tell what server you happen to be using. Verizon (or another email provider cannot/will not tell you and trying to get the email provider and Amazon together to track down the problem is, ahem, difficult.

Here's something to try that has worked for many users. Download the "K-9" email client app from the Amazon Appstore and try it. Many users have found it works perfectly. If you want a "tablet-optimized" version, plunk down $5 for the "Kaiten" (get it?) version. Works identically but has a two panel UI similar to the Amazon email app.

K-9 Mail

Kaiten Mail

Yeah that's understandable. It is a bit disappointing weather you use that function or not. I already sold my first gen so I all be keeping it. If need be I will find a work around if I find the need to use the email. But, to be honest. I had the first gen for a year and although the email worked I hardly used it on the tablet, just the phone and laptop. Good luck.

Mine stopped as well. However, I dont mind because I get them on my phone. It was kind of annoying to get notices on 2 devices, especially before black friday. I was actually glad they stopped. I totally understand why others would be upset though.

Thanks for the information on K-9 mail...wish I knew about it before I called to send my fire HD back. I have it all ready to be returned but I'll keep an eye on this discussion to see if this bug ever gets fixed.

Daniel,

Happy to hear it. I've been using K-9 and Kaiten on various Android devices for several years. It is an especially great app imo. And if you happen to use gmail (as I do), it provides far better features for managing folders and doing mass deletions than any other app.

k9 was easy to set up and works perfect. Thanks again!

Well, I recieve email on all my other devices no problem, and I can always use webmail so it's not a big deal, but common, it's not rocket science it's just email. This should work.

I have discovered that it will always work ONCE when I remove my account and then re-add it.

This issue seems to only occur with my roadrunner email account though, my yahoo & gmail accounts can always receive emails without issue.

Seems like a significant clue to me but I'm not a computer programmer.

I also tried amazon support, they suggested I send emails to myself over and over to see if got them.. after the 3rd time they told me to send an email to myself I just hung up.
Really glad I didn't hang in there for the 3 hours of fruitless "have you tried rebooting it?"

I have experienced exactly the same thing with my Roadrunner account on my Kindle Fire HD 7. After removing and re-adding it multiple times, I have discovered that as long as I don't delete ALL the e-mails from my inbox (I generally leave at least one), I will continue to receive new e-mails. Not exactly the most elegant work-around, but I guess it will have to do for now.

Get k-9 from the Kindle App store. It's FREE and works great!

Good to hear. Glad it worked for you. jsh1120 recommended it to me. It's basic, but works well.

S. Sigourney says:
D. Dunk, I have found the exact same thing with my Fire 8.9 and the built in e-mail app. If I leave at least ONE e-mail in the inbox, the next time I check my e-mail (Roadrunner) it works fine. However if I empty my inbox (like when downloading it on my primary computer) so there is no new e-mail, then the next time I check it on the Fire it no longer pulls any e-mail down at all. The only "fix" appears to be removing that account and re-adding, then it works just fine as long as I leave at least one e-mail in there.

This is definitely a problem with the preloaded Kindle Fire e-mail application as other 3rd party apps don't behave this way. The preloaded app has very limited customizing options as well regarding e-mail handling. On my previous 1st Gen Kindle Fire I purchased the Enhanced Email app and it worked great, however it has not yet been made available for the Kindle Fire 8.9 model.

Alan says:
I experimented a little, and in my case, I can delete all the mail in my inbox, but as long as I leave one message in the trash folder, I still receive emails. If I delete all mail in the inbox and then delete the mail everything in trash, then I no longer receive mail.

Great detective work folks. The community comes through again!

Thanks all. I finally downloaded K9 and it works perfectly. Not as nice as the Kindle mail, but I no longer have to remember to leave 1 message in the box. FYI, it's free and it sets up easily.

Well, ever since the 7.2.3 update for the Kindle 7 HD I have found that the native e-mail app works properly again without having to use the "leave one message undeleted" work-around.

This is exactly what happens on my fathers Kindle Fire HD 8.9. Account works once no problem when I remove and readd, if we go back in, it only has headers and never loads the rest of the email, frustrating.

I was having a lot of trouble downloading emails to my Kindle so I tried another email program. That worked, but I really didn't like it so I removed my account from the native program and readded the account. All is well now, but there are a lot of times when the headers load but the messages load very slowly. I spend a lot of time watching that little circle go round. :-(
