After using my paperwhite 2 for a few days I noticed that there is a gray line running down the bottom along the very bottom of the page. Clearly there is a grey border around the entire screen covered by the bezel and while the screen is not crooked it appears to ride up very slightly and makes the border visible along the bott. I have not heard anyone complain about this and otherwise have no issues. Is this normal?

I just looked at mine and I saw a thin gray line along the edge only if I peek up underneath. It doesn't move and is hidden up under the frame. If yours moves and actually creeps up until you can see it then I would contact Amazon regarding a replacement.

I didn't mean to imply the screen was moving. I meant to say it looks like the gray border is meant to be evenly covered by the bezel but in the case of mine the screen is set just a bit high and you can see the thin layer of gray at the bottom of the screen. It is noticeable if I'm looking at it but my eyes do not focus on it while reading. I was trying to determine if this is common with the paperwhite so I don't risk jumping into the exchange pool. I have no other complaints with this particular kindle.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. I can only see the line on mine if I look down under the frame area,...like if I was trying to look under the frame at the lights or under the other areas of the frame. But as far as normally seeing it while looking at the screen mine does not show at all.

I would hate to have to go through the exchanging too,....but if it bothers you while reading it would be best to exchange it early on instead of after you get a ton of books downloaded. You can't see the line on mine or my husbands new paperwhites, so I doubt this is a common issue.

Thanks very much for the info. It's probably something I could live with, but if more people chime in and it turns out that no one has ever heard of this issue, I might as well swap it out as I'm within the return period. :)

If there are stores nearby that carry Paperwhites, you might want to go look at a couple and see if yours is significantly different than the displays.

Also, if you decide to ask for a replacement you have 30 days to return the defective one, so you can compare the replacement with the one you have and decide which one you want to keep.

To reach support, click the "Help" link at the top of any Amazon page, then the "Contact Us" button. Use the phone or chat option for best results.

Edit: I meant to also say that I don't notice a line on my daughter's PW2, and I haven't seen others post about it over in the Kindle Help forum. I'd go ahead and contact support if I were you.

I'm going to plan on that later today. If a hoard of owners find them on theirs please post and let me know. My fear is always getting a unit with that same defect plus another one. Thanks!
