Oh yeah. Amazon really has that discrimination factor as a policy.

It couldn't, for example, have anything to do with various legalities and/or technical issues. Oh no.

BTW - this is a customer forum. To talk to Amazon, use https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/contact-us

CBRetriever says:
not that backwater if you can get kindle books - pity the poor people in Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, etc who register their kindles and turn them on only to be confronted with one book choice (the Koran usually)

and it looks like population matters:

US = 314 million potential readers
Australia = 22 million
Canada = 34 million
the UK = 62 million (has store)
France = 65 million (has store)
Germany = 81 million (has store)
Spain = 46 million (has store)
Italy = 59 million (has store)
India = 1 billion (just opened a Kindle Store according to some news reports)
Japan = 127 million (just opened Kindle Store last month)
Brazil = 193 million (surprised that they don't have a kindle store given that some Kindles support Portuguese - rumored to be in the works)
South Africa = 50 million
Sweden: 9 million
Ireland: 6 million

I'd expect South Africa, Canada and Australia to be in the third wave of Kindle Stores and maybe the Philippines

ETA: Not trying to defend amazon here, just trying to guess at their reasoning

CBR, I so really hope that your guess of SA being in the next wave of stores is correct. Amazon will really show local companies a thing or two about customer service.

There you go then. Glad you have it worked out. Of course there are other Android tablets out there I am sure available to you.

Loz says:
You do realise there are other tablets out there that you can purchase right? It's not just iPads and Fires. You can still use Amazon for books through an app on the tablet.

1) Price - tough toenails. It is what it is

2) Again, price - see #1

3) OK

4) OK

Again - talk to Amazon. This is a customer community.

Note: None of your "4 points" actually appear in your OP. Calling a company's policies (the Audible content remark) "stupid" doesn't fit into those points.

Old Rocker is far more welcome here than is your whining. His/her comments are VERY welcome.

guess that rumor was true then:

http://techcrunch.com/2012/12/06/amazon-finally-reclaims-its-namesake-launches-in-brazil-with-kindle-store/

and in encouraging news to other countries, it's the "first attempt to go into a new market with an e-book-only operation" which is what has to happen in other countries before the Fires can be released to them

Cassie Anne says:
And you're just lovely and charming, aren't you?

The fact is, the Fire isn't available in Sweden. For all we customers know, it may never be available in Sweden. You can complain here all you want, but it won't be well-received and it won't change anything.

~We~ can't make the Fire available anywhere and everywhere in the world. Only Amazon can, and if they do it at all, it will be when it meets their needs and priorities, not yours.

Your purpose in complaining to other customers is what, exactly?

CBRetriever says:
looks like you're in the upper echelon populationwise and if you llok here, the next countries in the rankings where kindles and kindle content are allowed are: India (still just hearing rumors here also), Mexico, Phillipines, Vietnam and South Africa (Russia allows kindle content, but not kindles)

I always thought the Swedes were congenial, intelligent, and polite persons.

You must be the exception that proves the rule.

Your OP didn't invite discussion. Your OP was a rant directed to Amazon.

For the third time: This is a CUSTOMER forum. We can't answer the "why" questions.

I consider the whole tone of that OP to not only be incorrectly directed toward customers but far more rude than you attribute to me or Rocker. (Sheesh: One little snooze emoticon-type post and you feel it necessary to call him/her on it? Good grief.)

What do we "guys" normally discuss here? You'd know if you read the forum.

Yeah, giggle. It surely highlights my day to "irritate others." Love how you associate yourself with some group being "irritated" without, apparently, ever considering how irritating you are yourself.

About that "should not have to explain myself" comment: True but you do because of the stream-of-consciousness type style in your OP (an acronym apparent to anyone who spends anytime online for the purpose of, for example, WORK!)

Get over yourself.

Agent 99 says:
We may have the population (50 million) but I think we only have 5 million internet users here. E-readers are very much a novelty here too.

Kobo have launched their readers here, and they are available at a popular supermarket chain. I am not a marketing person at all, but if Amazon, or anyone, cared for my opinion, I would let Kobo introduce readers to the SA market, do all the hard work in changing mindsets, and then come in later and give Kobo a run for their money with the superior customer service.

<<Where did I ask fellow customers to solve the issue?>>

Well...

<< Why will you not set up a Swedish store? I am sure you would sell quite a lot. Money is burning in my pockets. PLEASE accept my money. >>

This right here? Who was it directed at? Considering that this is a 'Customer' forum, it looks like you were asking 'customers' to solve your issue.

Let's see about setting a "tone"

From the OP:
***
I am punished
am refused access to buying content from the Amazon sites.

it looks a hassle to get the device

it is not humanly possible to understand if you should buy it from the UK or US site (certainly not the Spanish, right?).

getting content to it will prove difficult if not impossible.

I have an Audible account and that seems to work fine, with the exception of the occasional title not available (which is stupid) but at least it works.

*********

Right off the bat: Contentious, displaying entitlement, ill-informed, and generally asking to be slapped with some reality.

Glad to so slap.

Amazed Grace says:
If you spent any time at all reading these forums instead of leaping in with your ifs not fair rant you would know that the topic has been flogged to death, and that we are a community of Amazon customers and have not the power to insist thst Amazon abandon their international marketing plans, thumb their noses at international tradelaws and TAKE YOUR MONEY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE YOU WANT IT AND THAT SHOULD BE ENOUGH. Snark will be met with snark here and entitled whines will be met with zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
