My Kindle Fire just froze up, I don't know why?

Hey Grandma8,

Mine has frozen as well. Has been this way for 40 minutes now. There doesn't appear to be any way to do a hard reset either. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try holding the power button for 20 seconds and see if it reboots. If it goes off, but doesn't come back on shortly thereafter, press the power button again.

We have the same issue. Charged it, turned it on, completed the registration, it said it was downloading software update and then it froze with just the name on the screen " Kindle Fire". Have tried the hard reset, does not do anything other than display the name again.

Wade Chandler, you are not alone, seeing the same issue on two devices

Having the exact same issue. Husband fully charged it overnight, registered it this morning, software update downloaded and it's been frozen ever since. Great gift for Christmas.

it's a POS, that is why the iPad is so successful, "it just works"

Gotta say, my iPad worked great right out of the box. maybe I should have just spent the money and got him an iPad too. This thing is useless.

Mine had "Kindle Fire" frozen on the screen, have not even been able to try it. Will be taking it back to the store tomorrow.

I went to this site:https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html/?nodeId=200127470 Clicked live chat and within about a 1/2 hour I had a new kindle on the way. Will arrive this week and I just have send the defective one back within 30 days of the new one arriving.

I would recommend that you keep it plugged in until it gets to 100 percent power. Let it do all of its updates before you do anything on it. Then you can use it while it is charging and plugged in. Also, I recommend charging it while it is on. It seems to charge better that way.

Mine is doing the exact same thing; started up just fine, connected to WiFi, registered it, plugged it in and started download. Now it has been frozen on the startup screen since 10 this am. Been searching online for a solution, but no success on any suggestions I found. Back to the store tomorrow. Seems to be a widespread problem. Very disappointing!

We called support, they said that we had a problem with screen resolution....really.... they are sending us a new one. We left it charging overnight, just in case...still frozen this morning. Personally, I think their software update had a bug in it, otherwise why would it have worked until the update was installed?
